Help Finding an Old Book on Predreadnoughts
When I was ayoungster in the late 70s our local libray had a small book full of photos and line drawings of pre-dreadnought battleships. I think it featured exclusivley British vessels but after all this time I'm not sure. The drawings were in small scale, probably 1/1200. As I recall there was a drawing and a photo for each class, along with a brief history. It prompted me to make several 1/1200 scale models in balsa - my first scratchbuilding attempts.
I have never seen the book again and cannot remember the title. Does this sound like a book anyone might know of? Any information would be a great help as I am trying to track this book down. Obviously a title and author would be wonderful.
Thanks in advance...

Re: Help Finding an Old Book on Predreadnoughts
Could it be this one? I've seen it at my local library but only picked up once a long time ago.
British Battleships, 1889-1904
By: R. A. Burt
ISBN: 0870210610
http://www.amazon.com/British-Battleshi ... 581&sr=1-1
I'd have to thumb through it next time I'm at the library to be sure but I seem to remember it full of line drawings and photos.
Hope that helps,
-Mike

No, that's not it (but thanks). I have that one.
I should have been more precise in my original post. It was a small book (as I remember) probably about 6x8 or possibly a little larger. I don't rememebr it being very thick either, maybe about 100 pages.
Sorry all I have to offer is vague boyhood memories, but I would love to find this book again.

It has drawings like this:

Wow! Thanks! but no... that's not how I remember it.
The drawings were modern (1960s or 70s) and clear, not too detailed but a better quality that Jane's drawings.
The chase goes on. I've done a million web searches but so far found nothing.

Could it have been Battleships of World War I by Anthony Preston? It was published in 1972. Here is a link to what it looks like; posting images is still a bit beyond my capabilities.

Thanks. No. That's not it. Though you have reminded me that I ought to get that book anyway.
Gosh everyone's being so helpful and I feel like a party pooper coming back with all these negative responses. Everyone's efforts a very much appreciated.
I'm not giving up on this however. Something in the back of my mind is telling me this book may have been directed at wargamers. I don't think there were game rules in it though. Maybe it was more of a source book for naval wargamers.

Perhaps it was this book then: TSUSHIMA: Naval wargames rules for the Pre-Dreadnought era 1880-1906.

It's listed on Abebooks, several times.

Yay! Awesome! I think that's it! The cover looks very farmiliar to me. I really think that's it.
Thanks so much to Ian Kennedy and Timmy C and of course everyone else who tried to help me. I think the hunt may be over. All I have to do now is find a copy to add to my collection.
Feeling pretty happy over here...
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!

Tigerfish,
You are most welcome, Timmy C's amazon link is the same book that i have, and in a similar condition by the looks of things.
It is very poorly bound with a glued spine and some of my pages have dropped out although they are all still there and the book is complete but tatty.
It is a great feeling when you find what you are searching for, I just hope this is the book you were looking for.
Regards
Ian

I really do think this is the book. I'll now for sure when I get my finger out and order one. They seem to be available secondhand from Amazon and ABE books.

IS the British battleships - only with 1892-1918 if I remember, by Randolph Pears!
