i like to see how you solve it.
perfect
Hi Norberto my friend thanks you for your kind comments . The drawings I have of Daring are good for building a model but the interior detail is omitted and yes you are quite right I have only the pictures to build and include such detail , may be I can claim modellers or a bit of artistic license :heh:

I guess it can be argued that the only real option for detailing these modern ships are the interiors- hangars, boat bays etc? Still, I've seen a few 1/72nd scale 45s and they're impressive on the water.

Mind you, watching two of them fitting out at Yarrows, sorry BAe, at Scotstoun was more so, they are big beasts.

Maybe they'll actually get the missile and radar systems speaking to each other and she can be more than a big gunboat.
Hi Doog Good to hear from you . Yes modern warships are getting so bland that it is hard to find any superlatives to define the designs. Amazingly there is lots of detail aboard Daring but its not spread out in the same way as warships designed say 20 -30 years ago. making the hanger does allow some deep seated need to rise to the detail challenge or it could be that I like banging myself over the head .Either way the model will be slightly different and perhaps that is the answer to why I have decided to move in a particular direction with Daring. Using the same logic can you imagine what could be done with the QE , the mind boggles , I really shouldn't go there :eyebrows: As for the effectiveness of the Type 45s they will be , one day.

Moving on a stage I'll start with part of the pipe work for the extraction system .
The first task in this session is to create the bell mouth openings as part of the extraction pipes . This was done by using a round needle file and gently opening the end of the aluminum tube .
Image
Each one of the bell mouth opening where cut to size and also shaped to suite the round of the pipe .
Image
The bell mouth was fitted to the length of piping . It should be noticed that not all the bell mouths are set at right angles to the pipe , several are at approximately 30%
Image
Initially the bends in the tube where formed from styrene rod , this was later substituted by aluminum tube
Image
The extractor pipe work beneath the walk way changed direction slightly to conform with the narrowing of the walkway.
Image
Both sides are prepared
Image
The logic of having a hanger space that could be removed and orientated to suit the job was invaluable especially when trying to work in the extraction piping beneath the walkway . The piping at this stage was tested for location and hangers added BUT NOT FIXED to the walkway .
Image
More to follow ..

Hi Dave,

New to the forum and came across your ongoing build of HMS Daring in 1/72 as I am also building a T45 of HMS Diamond in 1/96 Scale. I think you are slighlty ahead of me though and doing a grate job! I have put a couple of photos together to show you my ongoing T45 build so far.

All the best

Hi Robbie Exceptional build you have there. I have had to undertake work on the the hanger { to completion } at this early stage as it would have been almost impossible if the hanger roof was in place .As you may well be aware the moulding is very different than say that supplied by Sirmar and i have had to take into account the pre moulded sides of the hanger /galleries . So you are as it were some what in advance of this build but Fleetscale supplies some really well moulded parts of the superstucture which does make the 1:72nd build more strightforward than having to build the Sampson mast for example. I look forward to seeing more of your build in the future .

Hi Dave thank you for your kind words although I have alot to learn from such masters such as yourself. Its fantastic to finally find someone who is building a T45 Destroyer grate length of detail. I fully understand the issues regarding the hanger roof and why its best to finish the detailing inside the main hanger compartment before proceeding any further. The end result will be well worth the effort going the extra mile. Are you planning on having any working features such as radars on yours? Keep up the good work and I too look foward to seeing more of your build as she progresses.

Hi Robbie Thanks for your interest. I always admire those that engineer in working effects and some are quite amazing. However I like to concentrate, generally on the build as I find {for me anyway} fitting some of these features can distract from the model and can become the prime purpose of the build. It has been suggested by Bill Waldorf that I fit some lighting in the hanger and yes I have taken up his suggestion and found a method of making the light fitting with the LED inside. Alas that is the limit of my "working features, unlike your self I have not made specific plans or fitted the model to accommodate such technical features as working radars , sound, rotors revolving and guns moving ,even lighting . I also find working features like camouflage or weathering at least for larger scale working model a niche requiring specific skills .Either of these elements can go over the top and loose their effect but when done well make a good model even better.

Well here we go again, continuing the Hanger build .
Moving on to the fabrication of the hanger roof, which will include, initially the basic frame for supporting all the roof fittings, for example the air conditioning, fire suppressant system, cabling and lighting.
The hanger was placed into its position and the sides held together. The reason for this is to ensure that the fit for all the roof spars is the same as styrene can distort.
Image
Each cross member or spar is formed from Evergreen "H" section, measured, cut to size and fitted.
Image
With the spars in place BUT NOT FIXED the box section styrene that forms the air conditioning trunking is cut to their respective lengths .Surprisingly this is quite critical as a host of other piping suspended from the roof will link into these The positions of these was been pre marked on the cross members so fitting was reasonably straightforward. By the way, all of this is taking place in situ. In the picture the door end spar appears to be rounded this is an optical effect {camera} it gave me some course for concern when I first saw the picture.
Image
Fitting the crane tracks needed to be undertaken with care as they have to be accurately spaced and aligned .This will become clearer as we move further into the build.
Image
All of the initial frame work is now assembled and can now be removed from the top of the hanger. Towards the end of the build the roof covering will be fitted permamantley onto the frame work but that is some ways off yet.
Image
Next task was constructing the crane or mobile hoist that is suspended from the roof tracks . I only have pictures of this so a very rudimentary sketch was necessary so I have some idea of sizes.
Image
See how this worked out next time.........

Time for an up date.
Moving on from my rudimentary sketch to construct the hoist.
The material of choice was styrene H section for the surrounding frame with styrene strips to form the cross members . Each of the sheaves where made from a combination of .50 mm styrene and 2mm styrene tube . As seen on the real hoist there is a motor drive clutch and drive shaft .This was made up of 1.5mm copper tube and 3mmod aluminium tube with off cuts of styrene to form the motors drives .
The frame for the hoist was measured and cut to size . Parts for the sheaves where made using my old friend the leather punch and styrene tube
Image
Once cut each sheave is ready for assembly
Image
With the frame assembled as per the drawing the sheaves where added to either end and a pin inserted through the frame and the centre of the sheave .
Image
Now the critical bit .The reason for maintaining good symmetry on the roof space hoist track becomes very evident when the part built hoist is added for the first time to the rails .If correct the hoist should glide along the track! .
Image
With the roof assembly removed and hoist added
Image
The roof assembly PLUS hoist is returned to the hanger . Like many of these little jobs there is a left and right , top and bottom or to put it into context a right and wrong way round and this hoist is no exception Time to reference the photos just to convince myself that its not all a big mistake. Thankfully no . But there is the question of avoiding the large bore feeder pipe work for the fire sprinkler system but that is for later !!!
Image
Now Im satisfied that the hoist will fit between the rails { and is free to move] the remainder of the outstanding jobs on the drive train can be undertaken.
Hoist and drive train components ready for assembly.
Image
Next step assembly of the drive train.
Image
Once the drive train is fitted together attention shifted to the purchase which is mounted between the flange of the H section of the frame .Like the hoist this can move along the length of the crane . Basically an inverted eye plate fitted to a moving dolly with linkages to the pulley wheels.
Image
The completed drive train is slotted into the side of the hoist frame
Image
IT fits only the rigging remains but that will have to wait until the hoist is painted {in bright YELLOW .
Image
More next time .

When seeing this I know I need an organized workshop with storage for all sizes of tube and profiles  I spend more time when looking for parts than the actual building. This is why I always keep postponing it for a long time and my model never gets finished :heh:
