Another masterpiece Jim. It definately needs proof by using pics with fingers, tools or films that these ships are indeed 1/700. Ratlines and furled sails are trully exceptional.

Th model has been progressing in minutia.... teeny bits seem like a great achievement-individually they are nothing--collectively they make the end model...

alas it does not make for interesting reading...

The 4 x stocked anchors are scratched

The ships boats have been cobbled together from various items in my scrap-box, some WEM, some Combrig, some old WSW with the large steam-picket boat being entirely scratchbuilt on a wooden carved hull

Thereafter, twixt crew painting and making davits of wire...

the rigging....--I actually enjoy the rigging stage--though ofr a given effect it does seem to have taken forever!!!

The final completion beckons--just the sea, flatcoat touching in...

and onto a model with no masts!!!

There is something really special about the VM, the shape, the funnels the masts, and your dedication to getting all those details right. I hope you feel it was worth the effort. I think the results are truly spectacular.

There are the famous and infamous ships that everyone knows about and buys. There are the ships that seem inexplicably to flood the market in great numbers, despite being very thin on historical significance... and then there are these ships that verge on the obscure, played no great role in history, and yet have this magical quality, the balancing of shape and color and time period. I really think the VM is one of those ships, at any rate, she is for me.

Congratulations on a really amazing build! Magnificent collusion of skill and subject.

Jim, this is really fascinating: Sails from white glue looks fantastic. And in combination with your crispy rigging ...
Did you use white glue also for extended sails (gesetzte Segel)?

No--I always make my sails of thin paper--sometimes wetted and shaped over a light bulb and force dried on a heater.
