Did somebody already tell you you're barking mad? If not, I'm telling you: You're barking mad!!!

Couldn't look any more realistic apart from some people and dirt inside. A brilliant airbrush job as well, no sign of any imperfections nor uneven surfaces, and those pics are really taken up close!
My attempt at the Udaloy hangar looks like a 3-year old child's attempt at drawing a house with a backyard now, thanks!

PS: my Visby has taken shape very rapidly, minor stuff to be done.

Roel My friend I was entertaining a group of Belgium Modellers last week , they wanted to see Liverpool , lots of ships and ship models , even a ride on a WW2 DUKW. I have been waiting for progress reports on your Udaloy now you are building Visby and nearly finished, pictures please I must admit the airbrushing on the hanger was fun but the old "brush" still had a few jobs to do .

Hi Yevgeniy good to hear from you and thanks for the complements. Looking at the photos i see a huge amount of detail I could try to put into the hanger but I now know at which point to stop so there will be a lot to do that wont get done. Thanks for your interest much appreciated.

Hi Dave,

well the Visby is only in 1/400, a side project as I didn't feel (or actually didn't really see what) like making parts for the Chaconia model. Therefore I just took some modelling material onboard and looked what plans I had actually on my computer. I also wanted a fast and rather simple project, not to come home with yet another far from finished boat.

She's not yet fully finished as the really small details I'll have to do at home. but the result is already reasonable.






I was pondering about making the cannon turned and with the barrel out, but that'll have some serious complications which I'd rather avoid at this moment. I still have to detail the waterjets and of course paint the thing. She also has a small mast and a navigation radar on top of the cone. I'll also have to make these at home.

Any progress on the Daring?

Hi Roel my friend . A scratch built Visby 1:400 , that's small . Superb to see a departure from the big ships , I would have great difficulties going from 1:100 to 1:400 . Will you be painting the model in camouflage? I'll be posting up more hanger work over the weekend .I'm off aboard HMS Albion this Sunday that will take most of the day .I have this interest for the moment on LCU and LCVPs magazine work and all that Albion has both types, Work for the magazine takes up a fair slice of time these days and it�s not all to do with warships . On Daring I have been experimenting with the lighting within the hanger. So I can get a type of lighting that matches that on the ship LEDs don't seem do the job , wrong shape and far to bright . So I've adopted a slightly different form of lighting it seems to work and it is just the right level of light . Hope to get some pictures up as soon as possible.

Hi Dave, fantastic work on the hanger! you have a gift there for working in such fine detail I can say! I too have been beavering away on my T45 and now have my LRR antenna operating. The antenna used for the clip below is just to see what and how it looks like. I still have alot more playing to do before things are finally bedded into place. The LRR antenna is just way to heavy being made of solid cast resin which is quite heavy to have up so high on the model. I am thinking along the lines a making a new one out of styrene which is alot lighter and more detailed. Anyway heres a few shots of the latest workings. Keep up the good work Dave, speak to you again soon I hope!

Moving on to the next stage which is the preparation for air brushing the floor space within the hanger .
I like to mask every part to make to try to ensure that the new floor shade of dark grey goes where its required .

Personally I find WEM RN modern dark grey perfect for the job .

The floor space is airbrushed at a low pressure of 20 psi .

All the masking is removed and the roof assembly replaced .

The hanger is returned to its location on the model.

Moving on, a number of small fittings are required as per those in this picture .

Each of the parts including the extinguisher are made up from styrene and brass wire ,

The lighting was next to be installed . I used a 12v grain of wheat size lights which where not as bright as the LED . Here no resistance was necessary as it can be connected direct to the 12 v supply circuit .

Here is the effect so far with a small number of the lights connected. there needs to be 3 under each walk way .

Goodness Gracious!

I'm having a hard time telling the prototype pictures from the model pictures! Fabulous work! (has anyone used that adjective yet?)

I'm curious to know how you rank this build in relation to your other builds... How do you feel personally that it's going? That Kiev was so magnificent I didn't think anything could top that, but there's nothing like a new build... Keep us posted!

Hi Callen good to hear from you We are each at opposite ends of the scale spectrum yet try as best we can to incorporate the appropriate detail regardless of the scale , do we always succeed , I like to think so but I know that is not always possible yet I�ll keep pushing out my own modeling boundaries . As to whether Kiev is any better or worse than the follow on model is hard to say . I think modellers hope they can better their previous build or maintain a reasonable standard . I like to try new methods again whether they work for me is a mute point succeed or fail , I would never know if I didn�t try .

Hello Sleepwalker thanks for your comments and interest. Looking at models generally there are part of the interior that lend themselves better than others to exposing the detail and the hanger on warships does just that. Without the information then the exercise becomes more guess work than it should be. Although as I have mentioned Daring as a project is an uncluttered warship and the hanger is one of the few expressions of detail that can be undertaken from scratch .
