Great news!

James Noblin has found us something we've been looking for
I did find a copy of the Stbd & Port patterns at the archives last week.

Thanks James!

I would like to know when the Dragon 1/350 scale model coming out. I've heard some time by the end of this year and that was from Dragon USA

I'm looking for a kit review on Iron Shipwrights Uss Pennsylvania 1941. I know its out of production, but I see megahobbies is still offering it. I'm building the Pennsylvania in 1/96 and want to use the kit review as a reference. Chad

I am trying to finish a late war Pennsylvania and I have a question that I cannot answer by looking at photos.

I am depicting the ship while at sea in moderate speed. Where is the flag hoisted? At one of the forward mast arms or at the aft mast?

Someone posted on Steel navy site. That Dragon will be coming out with a 1/350 Pennsylvania 1944 fit in the 4th quater of this year. There was no link given to confirm that though.

Hi experts....

I'm temporarily getting tired of IJN ships so It's time start on my 1/700 Dragon Pennsylvania in 1944.

Does anyone have a layout of the hull portholes that weren't covered at that time? Were they all covered over?

This looks like a good kit but needs a little extra detailing.

Also, what is everyones favorite paint for MS21?

Thanks.

Are there any plans or blueprints available of Pennsy in her late '30s - 1942 fit? There were some smallish but obvious differences between her and Arizona, especially around the conning tower and bridge decks, and I'd like to build a Pennsylvania model correctly.

Many thanks,

Robert

Look for a book called "Keystone State Battlewagon, USS Pennsylvania (BB-38)" by: Myron J. Smith. ISBN: 0-933126-27-1, Copyright 1983.

It has a set of fold out 1/500 line drawings (side and top down) circa 1935 drawn by Alan B. Chesley in 1986. It also has color profiles (acrylic paintings) in the same scale from Feb 1942 and Aug 1945 as well as a bunch of photos. Bought mine at my LHS for only $8!
Drawing Board:
1/700 Whiff USS Leyte and escorts 1984
1/700 Whiff USN Modernized CAs 1984
1/700 Whiff ASW Showdown - FFs vs SSGN 1984

Slipway:
1/700 Whiff USN ASW Hunter Killer Group Dio 1984

Don't know if anyone answered you question but here are a couple of pictures from Navsource that should help. Note flag staff is circled in red. Also note they moved the flag to a suspended line between the mast, (see picture on right) not sure why but there it is.

I wish Dragon had made the 1941 version in 1/350 rather than the 1944-45.

While underway, the national ensign is flown from a gaff on USN vessels (normally a spar of the main mast). Other navies have different practices, e.g. IJN and RN flying ensign from flagstaff.

Me too ...
beside Pennsylvania, there is also Nevada, Oklahoma, West Virginia .... etc. in 1941 pattern which are not or if, then only as expensive resin model available in 1/350. :wave_1:

While perusing navsource today I noticed something I never have before on the fantail of the Pennsy. In this 1942 picture, two .50cal machine guns, one forward the catapult, one aft. Has anyone else noticed this? I thought it was interesting and just wanted to share

I never noticed that before. It looks temporary while in port? Thanks.

It looks like the name was ground off the stern also.

It could be- or censors may have blotted the name out.

I'm starting to consider kit-bashing a 1/700 Arizona kit into a Pennsy. I figure the lack of detail in the small scale would make it easier. Has anyone done this with either a 1/700 or a larger scale Arizona kit before?
