I live in the Albany, NY area and have recently developed an interest in the USS Albany (and USS Rochester), both Oregon City class cruisers.

Are there any kits out there, 1/700 scale, resin or plastic, of an Oregon City class cruiser as completed? I'd like to do a USS Albany, but not as the (ugly) conversion to the Guided Missle Cruiser.

Rumor has it that a 1/700 Oregon City class is in the work from one of the resin manufacturers. I believe it will be in the "as built" guise.

Thanks Martin. I've heard from Jon at Admiralty. The Oregon City is one of their up and coming releases. No firm timetable yet, but I'm in no rush. I have plenty in my stash to keep me busy.

A bit of "news" - Niko Models made a CA-122 kit, found it on a Polish web shop while looking for images of the Oregon City on Google. Sadly, I couldn't find any of the images I was really wanting, so I figure I'll ask about them here instead...

Question number one is, did the Oregon City-class ever mount a 20 mm anti-aircraft battery, or were they built without them? And if they did have them, does anyone have any diagrams of where they were mounted?

Question number two, the only drawings I've found of the Oregon City class are the ones in Janes Fighting Ships of WWII (which is inaccurate), and the really blurry one on Globalsecurity. Does anyone have a decent plan view of an as-built Oregon City/Albany/Rochester?

Final question, is there a firm answer to why the US Navy ditched the Oregon City so fast? She had the shortest active service of any US warship, even beating the Alaskas. I've seen guesses that she was defective in some way, but nothing concrete.

last bit of details are being put on Sara. and i started on DD-933 Barry on Saturday.clean the hull on CG-11 this weekend and will start on her this coming weekend.
