There is little information available on the Acorn or H Class destroyers of which HMS Nemesis is a member. These were the first oil driven class of British destroyers built to a Standard Admiralty design.
On the Web:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn_class_destroyer
http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/acorn_class.htm
Reference texts:
1. British Destroyers From Earliest Days Norman Freeman is the best reference with a great drawing of HMS Acorn by A. D. Baker III
2. British Destroyers Edgar J. March gives some clear photos and a copy of the Admiralty Sketch Design drawing.
HMS Nemesis in 1914 wore pendant number H72 and this switched to H88 in January of 1918. H Class war service as the 2nd Flotilla with the Grand Fleet, then in 1916 prior to Jutland temporarily at Plymouth and all in the Mediterranean by 1918 as 5th Flotilla. HMS Nemesis was manned by the IJN as IJN Kanran from 1917 to 1919 serving in the Mediterranean. I believe this is the reason Modelkrak provided for us this kit.

The model comes boxed with bubble wrap around the plastic bag containing all parts.

On first observation the hull is warped. So place in a flat bottomed pot just enough water to cover the hull and bring to a boil. Remove from the burner and when the bubbles stop (96 C) place the hull in right side up, chop sticks are handy here. Observe the hull, when it flattens, about 1 minute, remove from the water and place on the stove top. Press down amidships gently with a finger (its not that hot). Wait until cool about 5 minutes, youre done.

Now that the hull is flat it looks not too bad, when comparing to AD Bakers Acorn drawing There are too many port holes Starting from the bow for the upper row there should be 12 ports, then 2 can be filled in followed by a single port hole. Starting from the bow for the lower set of ports there should be 11, allowing 6 to be filled in. There are two port holes amidships. From the stern, fill in 5 port holes; numbers 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. On the Chart/WT Office the two middle port holes can be filled.

The companion way should run from the main deck to the deck aft of the Chart/WT Office rather than as modelled. And now for some measurements that show the model is 2%.

The parts are all on small pore tabs that will have to be removed. The cowl vents are way too long but the 1/700 scale drawing is correct and there are extra if you make a cutting error. The torpedo tubes are also cut to fit. There are four 4 guns that need to be cut to size. Mountings are moulded to the deck. I suppose you could use the remained as the beam 12 lbs but perhaps some thin wire would work better. Brass wire will also be required for the masts as these are not provided.

The instructions are very basic and in Polish. The drawing though simple is correct but AD Bakers drawing is the one you want. There is no photoetch provided but likely your scrap box will have what little will be required. For colour from "British Warships 1914-1919" by FJ Dittmar & JJ Colledge destroyers were to be painted dead black. On June 4, 1915 Destroyers to remain dead black but masts to become a very light grey. On July 7, 1916 all torpedo craft hitherto black to be painted grey. Hull 1 part black to 20 parts white (by weight), upper works to use mixture 1 part black to 23 parts white.

With a name like HMS Nemesis how can you say no. I purchased via the net from Jadar-Models at http://www.jadar.com.pl my experience was very professional. The kit was shipped one week after I placed the order and it arrived in Canada 1 week after that. HMS Nemesis is the perfect kit to complement those early dreadnoughts.
