Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway

Well, Enterprise is on the way. Actually, by the looks of it, two of the kits. Ordered one from Hobby Warehouse, but attempted to cancel it after seeing the horrible rating they received. I then ordered the kit from Scale Hobbyist, since I trust that site. Just found out today that Hobby Warehouse is shipping out the package today. Anybody got a good suggestion what to do if I receive both packages?

My dad was extremely mad when he heard of the incident, so I cancelled the second order from Scale Hobbyist. I might order another one someday. But, with them being in 1/350 scale, I just don't have the room. But, thanks for the suggestion.

Glad that you managed to get one cancelled, yes they are big, thats why my normal scale is 1/700.

Speaking of carriers, what one would be best to modify into the Midway in 1/350?

Unless you are modeling Enterprise or a Nimitz Class, you are scratch building in 1/350 scale. I thought about trying to do an Enterprise into a Kitty Hawk Class but even that would require a huge scratch effort. Midway is not even close.

I am still building the Airwing for a 1/350 Korean War Kearsarge. I have the Sky Raiders, Corsairs and about half of the Panthers completed. I am waiting for the L' Arsenal Banshees before I get to far along on the ship. I am going to light the hanger so I need the airwing to detail the hanger. I am using the ISW resin kit of the Essex in her SCB-27A config. I have thought about trying to work that kit into an SCB-125 Essex Class for a Vietnam build. The cost on the project is around $1000 now because I made the mistake of buying the ISW aircraft, not good, and I could have done the hull from the Trumpeter donor kit vice the $150 for the resin hull from ISW. Those two errors cost around $300 so live and learn I guess. The Trumpeter Hull would just require 1/8 inch styrene sheets along the side to get the blister done and the ISW conversion set does the rest for you above the hanger. The kit says to use an Essex donor kit but you should actually use the Trumpeter Ticonderoga or any of the Trumpeter "Long Hull Essex Class" carrier kits.


To do a SCB-125 all you would need is the ISW conversion set, a Trumpeter Tico donor kit, and Nautilus does a wood deck for that conversion. Even the aircraft are available in 350th scale now. Crusaders, Skyhawks, Sky Raiders, and Whales. No Willy Fuds though. I do not think that the minister of Finance will go for another $1000 model! Maybe next year.

Jev, as mark has stated, there is no easy route to a 1/350 Midway, if i was going to attempt it, i would buy a 1/350 Iowa class BB and use the upper and lower hull or just upper if building a waterline. i would also buy a 1/800(actually much closer to 1/700) Arii kit for reference.

Ok final sets of PE are ordered for my Roosevelt build, also ordered various sets of PE figures, i found my GMM Carrier decals whilst looking for something else

Just have to get some PE sets for aircraft laters.

I know I have been overloading you all with questions, but would it be possible to modify a 1/350 F-18 into a F-35? Or would I have better luck modifying the Arii 1/400 F-22?

Anything is possible with enough time and money is what they tell me at work......

However, all three jets are different sizes and F-35 is a single engine. F-18 and F-22 are twin engine. If you wait for awhile, somebody may put one of those out there. Drop an email to Tony Bunch at L'Arsenal and see if they might be able to help you out. There may be enough requests for a JSF to justify a run for them. I think that acurately building a 1/350 fighter would be a bigger challenge than scratch building a carrier. Acuratley building 10 more copies of the one you started with would be in the way hard category!! That is the problem with scratch building your airwing. You usually want more than one example on your flight deck.

If i had to scratch them i would spend the time making a good master and then make a mold and cast what you need, that way you get identical copies.
