Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
Thanks. I will have a look at the Humbrol and WEM colors and see if they
are close to my "stock" color. If not I can purchase one of the 2 and lighten
it a bit.---John

On the "A" turret roof there was a roundel. What was the
approximate diameter? I may have a roundel left over
from a Lanc or Mossie that may work. Thanks---John

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
Quick question...what planes did HMS Hood used in her early 20's career on top of B turret?

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
Hi,
The HMS Hood website is absolutely essential for anyone modelling Hood...
Here is a link detailing the aircraft. Flycatchers and F111f
http://www.hmshood.com/ship/other.htm
Although the Flycatchers were used on the catapult on the stern...
Whoops! Looks like EJ beat me to it!

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
I'm about to start the ships boats phase of my Hood build. What color was used for the bottom paint? I read that it was white, but I've never seen white anti fouling paint before. Also I gather after looking quickly through the last few pages of this thread that the boat complement in the kit for May 1941 isn't quite right?

Hatchet Partworks 1:200 scale monster
Hi guys
I'm new around here. I usually inhabit the CV2 Lexington fan area.
Anyway, my question. For the last year I've been building the Hatchet Partworks 1:200 model of the Hood. I've had and am having a few issues.
I feel a bit lonely on this one - is there anybody else out there attempting this monster?
Thanks in anticipation.
Chris

An essential book about Hood is the Anatomy of the Ship - The battlecruiser HOOD by John Roberts.
The book is a mine of information, illustrations, excellent drawings and photos. It will answer the questions in the present set of postings.

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
Hi all,
I am building the Trumpeter 1931 Hood and have GMM's WW2 British Warship Fittings set on hand for detailing. I am puzzled by the PE catapult construction, precisely the catapult turntable as I cannot find the equivalent plastic part for replacement. Although I have the Anatomy of the Ship book for reference, I have no idea on how to fit that part to the model. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
I read earlier in this thread that trumpeters 1/350 25 ft fast motorboats were seriously under scale ! as i am modding them to a more accurate representation of the originals i decided to measure them . They measured 20.05 mm in my vernier
20.05 mm x 350(scale) = 7017.5 mm = 282.5 inch = 23.55 feet
Under scale granted , but good enough i feel to use the hulls as a base to start on ..
I really do wish AMW made some 25 footers though as the trummpy ones are less than rubbish and will take a lot of work to get right

The Wreck of HMS Hood
So what did we all think of that Channel 4 programme about how they thought the shells of Bismarck were able to cause Hood to explode. Having read, some years ago, the RN board enquiries into her loss, although they back then could not decide which magazine blew up, they were certainly on the right lines. But it was useful for the programme to be able to pretty much confirm it was probably a magazine in the vicinity of X turret. Apart from all that the photography of the wreck was amazing - to see the stern in particular still more or less in one piece - and to verify the rudder was over confirming the ship was turning to open up her A-arcs. All good stuff.

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
Laurence Batchelor made a few screencaptures of the lastest Channel 4 HMS Hood documentary of HMS Hood in 1939 from the famous but previously unseen colour footage which is now held at the Porthsmouth Naval Museum (copyright). I hope Laurence doesn't mind my reposting here
Shots of this film were previously only available in Bruce Taylors book and part of the movie is now visible on youtube
Detail-wise, not much new to see, but the blueish tint of AP507A is well visible.
edit: AP507B should be AP507A

Re: Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans
My mistake! It is AP507A (Jun 1939 Late 1940: AP507A according to the Hood site, which is never wrong
)
