Re: Just Crusin' - January 2012 to September 2012
So far everyone is elegiable to participate. For me the deal breaker would be if you are to the point you are to the fitting out stage and could do the rigging and weathering. If you are that far, you are to close to done.
As far as types of ships, if the navy in question has offically had it listed as some type of curiser during any part of it career, even if it was converted to a curiser, it counts. If Auxiliary Cruiser is an offical catagory it is welcome.

Count me in with the Pit-Road 1/700 IJN Auxiliary Cruiser Aikoku Maru.
Edit:
Dry fit of parts looks like it should pretty much fall together. Great use of "slide molding" to render detail on all sides.
Has anyone buit this one, and if so are there andy errors/pitfalls I should be aware of?

Is that a "no" to WIFs? The countries in question would classify these ships as "heavy curuisers". Would that classify it as a "yes" to WIFs?ajkochev wrote:So far everyone is elegiable to participate. I hope so! Thanks!

Funny, Aikoku Maru is what I plan to build after Maya. I'm thinking I can get both in
Scott, you'll have to lead the way.

Would Graf Spee qualify? It's more a heavy cruiser than anything else, IMHO.

Wikipedia has it listed as a Deutchland class heavy cruiser so that is good enough for me.

Decks are pretty much done on my Aikoku Maru.
This is the first time I've used colored artist's pencils for deck accents. Overall I'm pleased:

Any era is welcome so long as it could be classified a cruiser.

I'd like to jump in with the 1/350 Aoshima Nachi. It's already started but it's not close to 85%. I've got the hull and main decks together, mounted on it's base and painted and the bridge structure started. I will post a photo first chance I get.

Scott, so pleased you're building this for the group build, as it is in my stash and such an intriguing kit. I don't know of anyone reporting a start on this kit yet, so as Dan says, you are leading the way.reigels wrote:Decks are pretty much done on my Aikoku Maru.

Deck coloring looks lovely. I tried colored pencils once on an older mold IJN battlship... did not lay down as nicely as yours appears to have done. I see they are Prismcolor pencils can you specify what type (there is extraordinary variety out there!) Any concerns about weathering over top of thisl? How sharp are you getting the points - what is visible in the photo? Wider than planking? Light over dark? Dark over light? What was the undercoat - the Humbrols?
Happy New Year to all participants - love the diversity of navies, ship sizes, and eras shaping up here!

I will enter Dragons 1/700th USS Albany CG-10.
And if I have a good build year, Aoshima's 1/350th light cruiser Nagara.

Re: Just Crusin' - January 2012 to September 2012
I spent just under three hours today working on the San Francisco's cranes. They are not done yet but I got tired of working on them.
I have set aside Wednesdays for working on the San Francisco.

Looking good Gordon! Lots of detail you got there on your build.
