Hello Atma,
thanks for those pics. Love that Severodvinsk bow. Not exactly their habit of lowering it into the water when surfaced... Looks like it really wants to dive all the time like this!

What about Kazan, seem to have missed the news about her being completed, do you have any link to an article or pics of her launch?
And how accurate are those drawings? Is there any pictorial evidence of that VLS etc?
:woo_hoo: At last their programme is advancing!

Hi Everyone
I thought I would share with you my latest model, just completed today,it is the Kursk in an ice field.

Image

She is the Tamiya 1/700 scale model,a joy to build and paint straight out of the box . I decided to add a little to this scene and depict her in an ice flow with ice adhering to the hull also.
Image

I used white Ensign paints along with matt and gloss lacquer for effects with matt white paint to emulate frost on the hull, the sheet ice was made up using plastic cards built up in layers, and the ice berg shaped from foam or sponge ,which has been sealed and painted for effect.

Image
Image

In this last image here she is with another little project of mine,HMS Victory in 1/1200 scale

Image

I hope you like her as much as I did building her,was a joy to do I am very :wave_1:  happy with her!!!

Any idea why Bronco is going with a 3 part hull?

I just got the Hobby Boss 1/350 Yuri Dulgoruky and they use the more common 2 piece hull.
On the workbench:
I Love Kit 1/72 OSA-I

Recently completed:
Das Werk 1/16 Panzer III Ausf. J (early)
Trumpeter 1/35 SA-8 Gecko
Trumpeter 1/350 Moskva (Slava-class)

Hi there.

Great thread and a website I have been browsing for a while now with great enjoyment.

To come to the last question, I can tell you Bronco is forced to go that way (bottom hull in two pieces split longitudinally) because they chose to give the possibility to represent the kit waterline, as in their (poor) Akula II (...which is actually a III). This translates into a separation top to bottom of the hulls which is higher than the mid line, making the bottom part with too complex a shape to make it release from the moulds (it is actually concave, that is the separation plane is not at the largest diameter and so, when you view it in section, it tends to close towards the opening).

I have not been able to look at the Hobby Boss kit, but I am pretty positive that they have split the hull at the centerline, thus making it possible to have the bottom also as a single piece).

I hope this helps and thanks for the info shared by the other members. Very interesting pics!

Jedrek,

Thanks for posting links to both Borei kits.

I see there are some differences between the two in terms of what options can be displayed.

However, I also see a complete difference between the two in regards to how they portray the propeller area. Hobbyboss has the plastic prop blade guard positioned forward, and the exposed PE propeller to the rear of it. Bronco has the exposed PE propeller positioned forward, and the plastic guard to the rear. Does anyone know which way is correct?

Hello everybody.
Borei class became a very popullar subject now days isnt it ?
Anyway Hobby Boss got it right BUT I must warn you, Hobby Boss offering is suffering from bad fitting, In your place, to save me from "headaches" I will choose the Bronco. NEVERTHELESS both Hobby Boss(if you overcome the fitting problems) and the Bronco make a nice quick build for the SSBN Borei class.

Edit:Bronco offering also a lot of options, like a full RSM-56 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile, tail planes with motion, extractable moving device can be models open or closed and extracted or open foreplanes. Also the Bronco's Borei bridge is more accurate. All this made me feel that Hobby Boss rushed the Borei to market to go ahead from Bronco.

Also Borei is offered by Polar Bear Production in 1/350 and in resin:
http://www.submarines.zx6.ru/borey%20model.htm
This offering is the most accurate in the market at moment.

Also in 1/700 by OKB Grigorov in two versions, full hull and water line.
Full hull:
http://www.okbgrigorov.com/images_navy_ ... _1_700.htm
Waterline:
http://www.okbgrigorov.com/images_navy_ ... 0%20WL.htm
Its a sweet easy build for an accurate Borei class submarine, highly recommended.
And here is review for the full hull 1/700 version by OKB Grigorov:

Thanks for all the information Atma.

I've already got the Bronco Borei ordered so, it looks like I'll have some propeller shroud reshaping to do.

Does Hobbyboss's correct shroud also mean that their instruction to shape the PE prop for clockwise rotation is correct compared to Bronco's counter clockwise?

Also, I noticed that on the drawings posted earlier, that the water scoop/fin is not on the lower hull in the final version. Have they done away with that design element in favor of just more vents?

Does anyone know if a 1/350 Yasen class is produced? Love this thread....it's a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks!

Atma,

Here is the area I was wondering about. The earlier drawings have this. (water scoop)?
Image

However, the final design doesn't. Have they just done away with that design? I see that the drawing for the new Yasen Class still has the scoop.
