Royal Navy MTB pendant numbers - colours in use 1941-42?

Hi

I am building a Thornycroft MTB (MTB 53) in service in late '41 or early '42 and the likely colour scheme of choice is overall AP 507B. Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to whether the dark (at least in b+w photos) hull numbers on MTB's of this period were black or red. 53 was a flotilla leader so the colur question applies to the leader's stripe as well.
