Light Cruiser LEIPZIG, 1:400 HP Models

I do not think I have seen too many Builds on this Forum covering HP Models of Germany.
One reason for this is may be that the kits are manufactured from resin in small series, and hence the price is a high compared to plastic kits.
Also, the scale 1:400 is not a standard, but as long as you are a Kriegsmarine Fan (as I am), there are no alternatives.

Still, I find the kit not too difficult to work on, and by using PE from my reserve box (mainly White Ensign), brass barrels and mast plus stretched sprue rigging, I think the result is acceptable

Leipzig was a Light Cruiser built as a modified K-class cruiser. Being torpedoed and sustaining serious damage in 1939, it did not see much action during WW2.
After the war, the cruiser was filled up with ammo, incl mustard gas ammo, and sunk in the waters between Denmark and Norway.
Even today, so long after the war, iy happens from time to time that fishermen gets burned by the gas from this and other of the ships sunk to get rid of the "waste".

Thanks for the nice words, Jim!
Well, I think I have a confession to make: I have actually seen pictures of Guidos model before, and his work was an important source for my build. The main source, however, was AJ Press�s book on the ship.
Also, I have to admit I was astonished to hear that Guido has not finished his ship yet. The photos of his ship (though not finished) must now be more than two years old.
Anyhow: This was my fourth build of the German Light Cruisers. I finished the series by building the fifth, K�ln, only last summer.

There were only 3 ships in the K-class, followed by two more modified ships: The Leipzig and the N�rnberg � all of them available from HP-models!

I also enclose a few larger pictures of Leipzig as requested

Can you tell me what the structure is between the second turret and the AA gun ?

Richard! The structures you are asking about are two exhaust pipes for the diesel engines. The diesels were used for cruising in order to save fuel, and were connected to the central prop. driveshaft. In the previous K-class the exhaust pipes were located further foreward onto the aft superstructure. In my model I have drilled out the pipes, as I have done with the funnel.

A beautiful build - congratulations! I like the K class ships very much. I think I prefer the single-funnel versions like your Leipzig to the two-funnel variants like K�ln, etc.
