Calling all Queen Elizabeth-class (1914-1947) fans

I just picked up the 1/700 Queen Elizabeth 1918 at our local hobby meeting. What a nice kit! Is the overall gray supposed to be 507c with 507a metal decks?

Now that I have the 1/350 Warspite and the 1/700 Queen Elizabeth (I'll probably buy the 1/350 QE and sell the Warspite), I've decided that my next project should be my old 1/600 Warspite (or my new 1/350 Roma )

I notice everyone says the bow and stern shapes are wrong, but where? Do I sand near the bulges? I'm planning on waterlining the model. Also does anyone have useful tips for creating mushroom vents?

I am thinking of building the kit in a pre-WWI guise thus not to have to do too much conversion (or masking for that wild dazzle scheme)

Hi there , there was an article in marine Modeler (Jan 1990 ) years ago that had a how to for a 1927 HMS Warspite from the air fix kit , I still have it ! , I could share some scans with you if that would help send me a PM if you like.

Need some help. Working on the Academy HMS Warspite with Pontos detail set. This is my first British subject so things are a little different. Can anyone enlighten me on what equipment/instruments/whatever are on the bridge level? I've got a bunch of references including AOTS, Ensign 4, Bitish Battleships 1939-45, and the Shipcraft book and there are a few plans and fewer pictures of the bridge in these. What there is, is not labeled. Where are the compasses, peloruses[?], sky searches, etc. located? Sorry to seem such a doofus, but this is a new world for me compared to US Navy ships. Thanks.

After reviewing in more detail what Mr. Foerth has done with the "small bits" of the HACS I'm less concerned about how accurate my attempts will be to reproduce same. The gentleman is extraordinary!!! Will endeavor on.

...I just faced this problem with my Warspite, unfortunately I was not able to properly identify/locate all the instruments on the bridge. It's bewildering to see how poorly documented is this famous ship.

Anyhow, I accepted as correct Mr Colin Vass 1/72 Warspite built from as fitted plans, here a picture of the bridge as reference, that combined with EJ excellent study should make the life simpler.

I'd be very careful with the bridge layout of Mr Vass' model. Ross Watton's AOTS Warspite is more accurate here. I believe the location of the ALOs flanking the pompom directors to be correct, but the row with pedestals behind it look suspect. According to Watton, these are searchlight sight and do not look at all like the items currently on the model (or in the AOTS, for that matter). Mr Watton does have the most forward searchlight sight drawn as a Air-Defence Officers. The most forward ALO on the bridge of Mr Vass' cannot be an ALO but some sort of captains sight as drawn in AOTS Warspite.

So, no photographic evidence of the searchlight sights, but as all modern RN bridge layouts (including the modified QEs) have the same equipment it's the best choice to have the sights as I have on my bloglet. Which doesn't mean that Mr Vass model is really wonderful!

Have just purchased the Ship craft 15 book of QE class Battleships by Les Brown, Seaforth publishing.

This seems to me to be clear on the camoflage used by this class of ship Warspite and QE models in 1/350 scale I will be following this camo on mine .
In the top picture of the bridge, those box affairs around the bridge are they extra protection or for other means.
Also I am well informed that some of the instructions if your useing the Pontos upgrade info on the Warspite that its not quite right on its left from right on the bridge detail in 1/350.

Great pictures here on the detail and its nice to have so much information on the smaller details for this class.

... I suppose you are referring to the wind deflectors of the bridge.

Well, you've all been such great help on the bridge details......so, how about a couple of more questions? Can anyone confirm the tops of the turrets being painted in AP507A Dark Grey as the horizontal decks are in the 1943 scheme? Some pictures seem to indicate they are the same as the vertical surfaces, ie. 507B and C. Also, what decks, if any were covered in Corticene? Thanks.

Thumbs up on that photo of warspites bridge EJ. great find .. I am amazed at how compact it is,no larger than a cruisers bridge , though a lot higher

Possibly a sloop by the looks. There certainly isn't room in front of the bridge for superimposed turrets, even taking the image angle into account.
