I don't recall 13.2mm MG aboard Soryu. Alos, I believe all of her 25mm mounts were twin mounts. Otherwise, it's looks pretty complete to me. Hope you post your build in the works-in-progress gallery.

Thanks for the reply guys! I will definitely get the planes.

You are correct Dan K, all the guns were twin guns.
I still havent decided on the guns yet. For the 12.7cm guns i had a look at Fine Molds, Veteran Models, Lion Roar, Ocean Spirit and PitRoad. Im not a big fan of plastic, but FineMolds & PitRoad look pretty good to me. The downside for me are the moldlines and the removal. The Ocean Spirit and Veteran Models look most accurate to me.

Its pretty much the same for the 25mm guns, most of the plastic guns tend to have visible moldlines.. And again the Ocean Spirit guns look best to me.

I only found one review on the guns and i would appreciate if somebody could help me with deciding what to buy.

Well, there is this commentary: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=90393

I have both the FineMolds & PitRoad 12.7cm 40cal HA mounts. I think them both excellent, though the FM are expensive. I can't recall any mold lines.

I don't think anyone's 25mm mounts are better than the FineMolds units. Again, I can't recall any mold lines.

FWIW.

I was refering to this:

Maybe im just nitpicking and these lines are barely noticeable.

I also read that one 12.7cm and three 25mm guns had casing against exhaust gas. I only found triple 25mm guns with casing, so i assume they are not around for twin 12.7cm/25mm guns.

This photo is proof of the curse of digital macro photography. Those lines are invisible to the naked eye in 1:700 scale, and only barely discernable under the 2x magnifaction of the glasses I wear when assembling in 1:700 scale. The photo is likley 30x - or more - larger than the actual part from Fine Molds.

To see these parts in person will alleviate any concerns. Buy a kit and check them out. I've been stocking up to use them in several builds, and am pleased to have them as an alternative to PE parts which can appear too two-dimensional in some views. A final thought - some of the FM kits come withe PE shields, and once those are installed, you wont even see the areas in the photo above that I suspect worry you.

I think D-Boy brings up an excellent point. I use a magnifier light with a 4x lense and I can't see any seam lines.

Unfotunately, there are no twin 25mm enclosed turrets, so you'll have to improve the barrels on those in the kit with thin brass rod or PE.

Hi gang,

I just got a great deal on the Aoshima Soryu 1938 kit, so I grabbed it. I was planning a Midway version but this one with a deck full of bi-planes looks great.

Does anyone have a link or photos of a completed model of this kit? Thanks.

I have this kit in the stash - I found it appealing for the same reasons. Have never seen a pre-1942 build.

It was sitting on the shelf of my local Hobbytown USA for over a year. I finally made them a 50% off deal and they took it.

I don't know when I'll ever build it, but......

Does anyone know if the Fujimi 1/350 Hiryu kit is accurate for a Battle of Midway configuration? If not, can anyone let me what to look for regarding modifications? I have lots of references, but haven't had time to decipher the dates.

Ledinot wrote:Well, as far as I can understand Japanese, the label of that left blue funnel on GPS picture means ventilating shaft, isnt it?

Just kidding I saw this picture translated into Russian. Seriously, I think there is a contradiction between what we see (on the photo) and what we believe in (the GPS picture). Have a look on what I mean; the hood on GPS picture is too broad to conform to Hiryu photo. I agree, there still is a possibility the intake was lower, and the hood was shallower and narrower.
To me one is an intake vent and the other an exhaust. The one with the hood is exhaust and the other with no hood I think has a grating on top of it. (Big Screen, like on the smoke stacks, so people wont fall into it. It seems funny though that it would be in that position because it would seem the flightdeck would block the airflow into it. Unless some how the shape of the ship in that area channels the air to the intake.

Correct. Frame 116 is aligned with funnel #1 (on right) ahead of the bridge.

May be wishful thinking, but I hope a 1/350 version is in the near future, too.
