Maybe good for the Destroyer thread .
No comparison at all mate.
My photo is Hms kelly,a k class destroyer . I was comenting on the photo posted a few posts above that by mr EJFoeth wich I am sure is Hms Warspite ?? The comparison was on size of bridge. But you are right it should not realy be in a QE thread ... being a destroyer

Except one they are from the IWM site and I trust the captions. The larger image I found online and the text says it's HMS Warspite. If not, it's either QE or Valiant. QE has a different awning stanchion layout for the bridge for what it is worth. I do not have enough detailed shots to make out the layout for Warspite.
The British fleet was accompanied by the USS Saratoga in 1944 from which some color footage was shot. HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMS Valiant, and HMS Renown are depicted in their well-known Admiralty Standard Camouflage Scheme A---G45 warm light grey overall and a B20 medium blue panel on the hull---and I noticed that the main turrets and non-vertical surfaces of the secondary armament are in the same tone of blue. You'll notice that these turrets appear darker on black & white footage as well, unlike the camouflage of other cruisers and battleships in the same scheme.
HMS Queen Elizabeth.
HMS Valiant. Note that HMS Valiant main mast is a pole mast and that HMS Queen Elizabeth has a tripod mast.
...these are beautiful! I received my HMS Queen Elizabeth last week, and I don't know how to paint her yet, but these pictures are intriguing, leaving space for some heavy weathering.
As a side note I'm disappointed by the quality of Trumpeter QE, don't get me wrong I'm very happy to have a new plastic Royal Navy battleship ( bought for about 75 ), but as often happens, you have what you paid for. Perhaps there is a reason behind the very expensive 1/350 Japanese capital ship kits.
An extensive after market intervention will be welcome
Those color shots are stills from some motion picture footage that includes Renown, Richelieu, London, another county (either Cumberland or Suffolk), a Fiji and several DD's. Footage can be found here in the Saratoga section: http://www.amazon.com/First-Flattops-U- ... 59&sr=1-49
(This is not a sales pitch, just information.)
OK, making progress with Academy/Pontos Warspite. Anyone know what color the draft markings were in 1943? Pontos supplies both black and white. Also, can anyone recommend whether to apply the wooden decking followed by deck fittings, or vice versa? This really is a fun build, but those pompoms sure are bad for my neck muscles!

Great Pictures! I've just ordered a QE off ebay from Germany and quite fancy doing her as she appears here. What mods (if any) would need to be made to the kit to do her in this paint scheme?
Also Wayne have seen pictures of the ships in 1943 with white on the black line and black there after below water line,,just to confuse you lol .
Do you have photobucket, if not register and put pictures up then bring down to forum page, its free and is a good source of keeping your pictures if anything goes wrong with your computer.
I'm somewhat confused {Surprise, surprise!}. In the academy Warspite there are 2 inclined ladders from the No. 1 platform {Pompom deck} to the shelter deck.In the Pontos Detail set they indicate 4 ladders. I can only see 1 in the AOTS plans on pg. 46-47. Am I missing something, or just can't interpret the plans correctly?

My experience with their material is that they use all sources they can find well but make up the rest. So, you never know what's correct and what's wrong and you have to find out using other sources anyway. Haven't made the comparison for Warspite as they fell off my list of reliable sources and gave their books junk status. If you're serious you'd be better off with the Anatomy of the Ship Warspite by Watton.
Just thought I'd point out that although Trumpeter shows the the areas around the 4.5 in DP's as been planked on their QE these areas should be painted steel as on the Renown. There is a very good overhead photo of her in a book I have that clearly shows this.
Just need a good method to fill in the planking detail without making a mess now!
