scratchbuild tirpitz 1/200

i'm new in scratchbuiliding and i'm interested in tirpitz in 1/200, i have several books for reference and got me plans of the tirpitz, do not know how made them but they are good, got them from a friend ,but i'm afraid this project could be difficult to do, due lack of experience, i been a scale modeler for some time now, but this will be my first experience, already got me the metal gun barrels , some p.e parets, the first obstacle that i encounter was the lack of the proper dimensions and the pattern of the deck planks, does any one here know this? also what kind of wood should i use for the deck?

Guest this is only a suggestion but if you are new to scratch building then I would recommend that you start with a project that you are comfortable with. Taking on and scratch building a model like KM Tirpitz at 1:200 is a demanding and challenging project even for accomplished model builders. Perhaps to nurture your abilities yet keeping your ultimate goal firmly in your sights start with a model that will help you develop those skills whilst also retaining and accumulating more information on the Tirpitz. These of course are only suggestions but this may help you to avoid just one of the pit falls that modellers occasionally fall into. Which ever path you choice to take I wish you well with your future project .

Hi Guest I found this picture of Tirpitz in the Liverpool Maritime Museum . I built the model over 21years ago and thankfully it remains intact . I say this because the hull is built plank on frame with a GRP coating and a wood superstructure covered in .50 mm styrene sheet. So far it has stood the test of time , no problems as yet. It has also sailed twice back in the summer 1989 for the late Commander �Mickey� Winn { Lord Newborough} He was commander of MTB 74 designed to attack and assist the destruction of the dock gate at StNazaire in France { the only dock on the Atlantic coast that could support the Tirpitz .} His estate in North Wales UK was huge and included a magnificent lake. When he got wind of the model being built he insisted that it should be launched on his "pond" I could not refuse !!! He did have this thing about the Tirpitz as he spent 4 years as a POW in the notorious Golditz castle after being captured during the raid.

Very well done, a wonderful model!
And it�s good to hear that styrene seems to be at least mid-lasting if not long lasting (that�s what I am scared about concerning Renown�s superstructure...)!

I don't want appear that I'm hijacking this thread but thanks for your comments regarding the Tirpitz model .
I never took that many pictures in those days of my own builds but this was taken on my behalf by a fellow modeller . Thank you all for your interest I guess I really should move this to completed models but it has been a LONG time completed

I managed to unearth this picture circa 1986 when Tirpitz was under construction .The funnel casing is made from litho plate and the drawings used where Groner originals , not as good as what is available today but that all I had .By the way I looked a little bit younger back then My appologies to guest for posting these pictures on this thread.
