lol...searching for aircraft ;) Thanks Dan and I will adjust the mast a little bit to bring the radar more prependicular...I still have to install some ladders on the superstructure, so I will get the radar done then too. Thanks, and also thank-you to Bob, you're one of my favorite contributors on this board. -Tim

Beautiful PE work!

My GF will love the fact that you are leaving the PE unpainted....she hates it when I paint over the PE...

Hi Anthony! Saw your update, VERY nice! Here's a small update for mine, still plugging away :) And Bob, glad to hear she likes the look; its slow to build this way and I have to be careful with the glue because there's no paint to cover up mistakes but I think it will look ok. So, we'll see :)

here foredeck is about 3/4 done:

Good golly, Miss Molly, I'm amazed. That is some of the cleanest work, if not the cleanest work I've ever seen. You must have patience to spare! Your decks look absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to see your Nagato start coming together. Keep those updates coming, it reminds me of my inadequacies. LOL

Now that is nice!

Loving the deck work. Interesting thing I noticed is the spokey PE parts that sit on the bits where the anchor chain ends (showing my maritime knowledge there he he) on your's sit on top (best seen in the last pic) where as on mine they sit behind to the left on the little plastic knobby bit?

Will have to check that on mine

Cheers

Very neat and an interesting way to display her, very much in the same vein as some heavily modified armour modellers.

your's is correct :) before gluing, I first placed those where the instructions indicated as well, but they looked too "flat" or something to me, it was just a judgement call I guess and I was just going to leave them off when I wondered what they would look like as the top of those chain gears instead. they looked ok so I used them there.

So yours is right drizzt73 :)

thanks Rob! would you have a link for one of those builds? I would be very interested in seeing the results... and if they planned to always leave them that way and not ever paint the pe.

I was thinking I would finish my model as you are seeing it now, more or less, and leaving it that way for awhile and then, I don't know, maybe after 6 months going back and masking off the decks and the other various things that aren't dull grey (and really, there aren't that many. +95% of the upper vessel is dark dull grey..and bring it up to more of a traditional type model in appearance.

hehe thats why I have so often said "we'll see" because I'm kinda new to modeling and I just don't know myself ... :) -Tim

**edit -This one isn't mine of course, but something like this...a little different but along the same lines I guess, maybe with the bling effect less obvious. Even over the course of the build, I can see the brass that I first used months ago darkening and dulling a bit on its own so..."we'll see", right? And thanks for your comments!

I've had to have a dig but here is an example,

Image

This type of model has it's own class at Euro Militaire

CLASS 14b Converted/Scratch Built Military Vehicles, Fully Finished but Unpainted

You could start a trend!

I'd end up in a mental ward if I tried this. (Although I might just end up there anyway.)

I am not worthy! Tim, if I tried that I'd be numb alright, but not comfortably. I'd be sitting in the corner, sucking my thumb and weeping quietly, tears dropping on the mangled PE glued to my hands. That is some of the best, if not the best, PE work I've ever seen. You have simply blown me away. You have a true gift, sir. Congratulations on work that I can only describe as "superlative".

Thanks for your kind words guys! have the main searchlight decks and high-angle gun controllers done this week. Please pardon the 8 pics, but due to size and placement difficulties of the pe and most of the railings, this was a most challenging section. I hope you like my searchlights! Cheers!

Hi guys and thanks for viewing my post. I have the rear bridge superstructure done, it contains a major antenna array that was challenging...I had to build most of it upside down, as can be seen in the first picture. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome! -Tim

Here is the rest of the rear-bridge nearly completed:
