I don't think that's what he was asking about, Atma.

The shields were the 5/8 octagonal metal shields. Here is where it gets tricky. I have seen them shown as mounted on the wood deck, or with a half-metal deck that extends to the ends of the shields and then comes straight across, or a full circle metal deck with the shield on one end.

They were DEFINITELY NOT "tubs, however. I'll see if I can get a few photos and attach them to this post. Unfortunately I have not seen any underwater photos of one of these, probably because they were all on the aft part of the ship that landed upside down. My sources on the above are several Japanese books and also some custom fittings for 1/350 Tamiya Yamato made by a fellow in Japan that are beyond amazingly detailed. I imagine if I could read Japanese I might have a better answer for you. In any event, whichever of the 3 configurations you make will be fine. Just remember, NO TUBS ON DECK. :cool_1:

Better to avoid confusion by referring to the ones you posted photos of as ".25mm Turrets" to distinguish them from the open shielded mounts on decks which are, I believe, what he is asking about ...

Today Im starting back on my 1/200 Yamato. Needed a little Yamato nostalgia to get me in the mood. Wonder if Sgt Ryan would want to finish this thing for me? :bash_2:

Thanks. I fiddled around with photoshop a little bit a few years ago to fix a couple of things, but the photo is basically as is - it was used to promote the 2005 movie. One thing that bothers me is that torpedo water spout - in real life it would have been as tall as the ship is long.

Time to post a 1/200 Yamato pic. I carved the lines with a pointed file. I'm going to use a resin diamond tread plate and use it with tin foil or tape.

NEW CGI FILM YAMATO AND THE BATTLE OF LEYTE GULF

Post by bucketfoot-al »

I just uploaded a 2-part Yamato and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and a 1-part Battle of Cape Engano. I am also uploading a HD version of Yamato's Final Battle which I originally put up last year.

I think you will enjoy - sit down, pop a cold one, and get ready for a rough ride - you'll never get closer to feeling what it must have been like ...
