Very nice work - I like it a lot.jeroen zuiderduin wrote:I also added the degaussing cable around the hull. Hope you like it.
What did you use to replicate the degaussing cable?

Gents, thanks for commenting.
@Bob: Yes, that was my idea, but don't you just hate it when someone - like Timmy
- points at the elevator planking and ever since I stand up with it and go to bed it. Anyway, I got tired that it kept nibbling at me, so I took the elevator out and repainted it. I'm gonna put it back, in the down position with crew and aircraft. Promise.
@Martin. The degaussing cable is stretched sprue.
Cheers

Jeroen,
You have certainly set the bar very high my friend for those of us trying to build a Yorktown class carrier!!! Great job. Would really like for you to breakdown how you treated, painted and weathered the deck. It looks magnificent! I have a Nautilus wood deck for the Hornet I need to get painted in the next week so would appreciate your help. Taking the deck to the Doolittle reunion to have the last survivors sign the deck I will use on the Hornet. Hopefully it will turn out good. Thanks!

Re: UPDATE 1:350 Enterprise CV6
Thanks for the nice comments, people!
@Bullet Bob, the deck, it's actually very simple to get result. As the attached sheet - the one that comes with the wood deck - says: Do not use acrylics. I used the recommended color Testors 1719 Insignia Blue (Enamel) and got it thinned down 50-50. Do not prime or use any other base coat, just spray the Insignia Blue straight onto the deck, on both sides due to warping when drying. The wood will suck the paint in and after 3-4 passes - give or take - it's done. Keep the paint thin, that's the secret. The color of the wood will show through your paint so to speak. I did not have the courage to weather the deck, thinking that if I would screw it up, you can't remove the paint and start over.
What do you think of the quality of the Nautilus wood deck? Mine was full of errors, forward elevator planking wrong, windbrake in the wrong position and I did not have that little 'bump out' close to the forward elevator. I think or hope that Nautilus has corrected the errors. Other than that, I was stunned by the detail. Anyway, I wish you all the best of luck and I envy you, going to that reunion.
Cheers

Re: UPDATE 1:350 Enterprise CV6
Jeroen,
Thanks fot the suggestions. At this time I don't own an airbrush. So am toying with the idea of using tamiya intermediate blue in a spray can, painting with a brush or asking a friend to airbrush. Scared the brush will not look smooth. So, you are saying to paint both sides at the same time to eliminate warping? Not sure how you could do that so any suggestions are appreciated. Yes, the decks are truly beautiful compared to what comes with the kit. I know there are some fit problems with the Hornet deck but will cross that road when I get to it. I also hope to try and fix theHornet trumpeter hull as well. Guess that's why they call it modeling! All the best!

Re: UPDATE 1:350 Enterprise CV6
Bullet Bob, I took the elevators out, so I had three holes in which I could stick my fingers. Because the paint is thin and the wood absorbent, It dries within minutes. If you leave the elevators up, keep in mind that you don't see the underside so after painting the deck, let it dry on some paint cans, pegs or whatever.
Really, painting the deck is the easiest part of the build, and I think you could achieve result by using a big flat brush. Good luck with you project and fixing that hull.

First of all, many thanks to all of you for looking, commenting and helping out!
The torpedoes on the flight deck are a gift from D-Boy
, the trolleys are scratch-build.
The majority of the photos will be submitted to the gallery, but a few starters for now.

Great job! Busy looking but not overdone, and i especially like the paint and weathering job you did on the aircraft, those are very very nice!

Jeroen, congratulations on another triumph! Absolutely outstanding work. Makes me want to go up to my work bench and hang my head in shame! That definitely deserves to be in the Gallery, for sure.

Can't wait to see the photos in the gallery.
I've moved both this and your DD build into the Completed Models forum.
