Admiral Hipper and the Battle of the Barents Sea

Hello all, I'm after a bit of advice please. I have Trumpeter's 1/350 Hipper which I intend to build as he/she appeared at the Barents Sea and have a three questions regarding appearance.

First off what colours was the scheme he was painted in, I think it was Hellgrau 50 and Dunkelgrau 51 is that correct? And did he have white panels fore and aft on both sides of the ship? And lastly what colour for the turret tops?

John Admundsens web site search Bismark,Tirpitz, has some very detailed drawings by Eric Leon that show Hipper in 1942. There is one from March 42 and also July 42. Eric also produced the colour drawings for Shipcraft #16"Admiral Hipper Class" by Steve Backer. this is also July 42. John and Eric also have a new book on KM camo schemes that is listed on Amazon as a May release. Hope this helps.

Hold the press: I found a camo scheme in an old Ian Allen publication that shows the July 42 scheme but with a dark bow and stern panel painted over the area that was white. There is a picture of Hipper from the stern that shows white in this area on the port side and dark grey on the starboard. This is how she looked at the Barents Sea battle according to this publication. Also her main turrets and crowns were wine red. I would continue searching but I thought you might find this intersting. A gentleman named Antonio Bonomi might be of help to you, he contributes to this forum.

Dan thats excellent, I'd found similar pictures regarding the white bits and this helps firm it up. Thank you for the info about the turrets as well, it is all much appreciated.
