What you mean match Lionroars IJN Yamato 6in secondary guns ? To replace the Lionroars offer or Lionroars PE set does not have barrels for the secondary guns.

The LR set for the older Yamato kit LR350003 has been discontinued. How much trouble would it be to adapt the newer LR35011 version to older kit?
Thanks

How hard will it be to take the 1/700 tamyia yamato kit and turn it into and acurate IJN Musashi?

No hard at all. Just dont add the unshielded 12,7 cm Heavy AA guns and instead add triple 25 mm AA guns for a 1944 version.
The IJN Yamato from Tamiya is actually a 1944 version instead of a 1945, or better suited for a 1944 version anyway. In 1945 IJN Yamato had some difference from a 1944, mostly arround the funnel. Few extra AA directors and a pair of searchlights were removed.

There was a new AA director in 1945. Take a look at the pictures of the new tooled 1/500 IJN Yamato by Fujimi, the orange arrow. Tamiya's old 1945 1/700 version of IJN Yamato dosnt have that, only the new tool 1/350 vresion of IJN Yamatoby Tamiya, 1/700 Fujimi's version and the new tooled 1/500 by Fujimi, apparently this was discovered in mid 2000's and only new models released after 2005 have that modification:

For those of you who have build a Yamato with PE, how long did it take from beginning to end? I saw one Yamato in the gallery that was quoted as having taken 2 months.

Has anyone built or bought one of the new-tool Yamatos yet?

Thanks, guys!

I haven't seen a new tool Yamato build in the gallery. Now regarding time frame Ive been working on my 1/200 Yamato for 2 years. Im afraid to even start the PE work. It took me a month to put on the hull plates and the rivets on the hull. And that was about about 100 hours of work. I also put a planked deck on her that took months.

So build time depends on modifications and amount of detail. You could probably put the model together and spray paint it in a couple weeks. And then give it to your son/nephew/grandson to take down to the local pond to sink.

interesting! After I have CGN-42 in the bag I am considering building an IJN Yamato and a JMSDF Kongo side by side for my Japanese coworkers. Even though the Kongo is not the most advanced of the class I was thinking about using the Kongo because she is the lead in the class.

Do you think the most advanced of the class, DDG-177 JMSDF Atago should be used instead or should I use the first in the class? What is your opinion?

David,

It's up to you. The Yamato will be a hit. The Kongo is a first of class as is the Atago. The Japanese did not make the Atago a follow on to the Kongos the way we did with the Burke Flt Is And Flt IIs and the Flt IIas. It was a completely new program and a new class. Even the Aegis program was new and we had to bid on it. Your call.

Wow! It's neat that they are actually different programs. I don't know much about the ships, but I can tell they have design differences, primarily being a swap of the missile systems, a different gun, a helo hanger, and a square bar mast instead of a lattice mast.

Thank you very much for letting me know that the Atago is indeed the newer of the ships. That will be taken into account.

Tamiya 1/350 Model Number

Post by Bent Wing »

I recently purchased the ArtWox IJN Yamato Wood Deck and notice it was cut for model number "780014". The Yamato model I have was purchased over 10 years ago but it has the model number 780002.

Would anybody know if 014 and 002 are based on the same (old) tooling?

Thanks
Ray

Yes, those two should be the same kit. The only new 350 Yamato is kit 78025.

Hey guys my Yamato is in her final week or so.. Two quick questions.. .first I used Mig wash to give a litte weathering but.. Is say to remove excess wash use Mig thinner and wipe away ..I should have read that last line as I do not have Mig thinner.. Is there anything I could use in its place to remove the excess Mig wash? Second before I post pics. , the ship look to the eye dark gery ( I painted her in tamyia Kure grey) but when I take pictures of her in the pictures she looks blue!! Any way to over come this strange problem? Thanks
