Re: Calling all IJN Fuso & Yamashiro fans
I wonder if they installed an anti-blast bulwark there, peculiarly only on one side, when they did it and why removed and when? Is there any record of it anywhere? In Sculsky's book perhaps?

Re: Calling all IJN Fuso & Yamashiro fans
This is not an anti-blast measure, is extra living quarters according to Januzs Skulsky's book, "Anatomy if IJN battleship Fuso".
Added after the last major reconstruction and later removed during the last AA refit late 1943 or early 1944 for weight saving measures. Aoshima's 1/700 IJN Fuso has it but you need to remove it if you make a 1944 version. Hard to do that in 1/700.
Is interest to note that some Japanese sources dosent even show that extra living quarters and even the official drawings from the shipyard of Kure.

The extra/new pars on the upcoming 1942 IJN Yamashiro by Aoshima:

As you can see, its not a completely new tooling. Just the parts pictured are retooled.

Oh and there will be two dedicated PE sets for both versions and that means for the 1941 and 1944 for both IJN Fuso and IJN Yamashiro.

Notice that it has the correct IJN Yamashiro's turrets tops for the first time in 1/700 and in plastic. Also notice how nice the detail is at the aft superstructure.

Re: Calling all IJN Fuso & Yamashiro fans
Since I have the Aoshima 1944 in the stash and no inclination to swap it for the Fujimi version (since I have PE and a wooden deck for it), what are the most glaring issues with the Aoshima release vs. the Fujimi release?Atma wrote:Finally the NEW molded IJN Yamashiro 1941 from Fujimi is out:

Re: Calling all IJN Fuso & Yamashiro fans
First of all wrong stern planking, wrong turret tops, inaccurate funnel base and the tripod in the pagoda was oversimplistic and many deck items are just copied from IJN Fuso(both kits on Aoshima release use same deck parts). Plus some inaccurate rangefinders on the pagoda.
As you can see from this post, Aoshima is also trying to correct those mistake in the 1942 IJN Yamashiro retake version, that is out in August. Still rangefinders and turret tops are wrong. And the various supports of the Pagoda is better molded on Fujimi release.

Re: Calling all IJN Fuso & Yamashiro fans
Forgot to add, that the new retake version of Aoshima is very peculiar cause it has an obvious mistake, it has on the deck(at the bow) the third extra anchor and is totally wrong, that anchor and any item on the deck related to that anchor was removed after the last major reconstruction in mid-late 1930's.

Re: Calling all IJN Fuso & Yamashiro fans
I just scored a 1/350 Fuso on eBay, so now I am putting a list of aftermarket parts together for the built. It looks like the Fujimi PE set for the Fuso is no longer available, does anyone know when or if the 1/350 WEM Fuso set will be released? I see it was announced more than a year ago.
Also, I guess I need a wood deck and maybe a barrel set. Any other suggestions for after market parts?
- Thanks!
Update:
Well, I think I have it covered. Found a store with the Fujimi PE in stock, ordered a set of Veteran models type 89 dual purpose guns and searchlights, wood deck, barrel set and Fuso Ship Anatomy book. I think that will cover the build, now I just need to find a place to display it when I finish.

For those with the Fujimi 1/700 Yamashiro 1944 Kit #s 72/431123, there's a slight error in the instructions:

The callout for Y3 should instead be for Y4.
