I think Revell used to have a Ticonderoga offering, but I haven't seen it in years.

In 1/350th scale the Dragon kits seem to be it. There are some Chinese knock-off versions of these kits that you can get for a lower price, but the casting quality is sub-par.

I have four questions;
a) !s there somewhere that sells after market decals so other members of the class could be done and
b) based on the list above which boxings will be able to produce which members of the class with little trouble?
c) a list of reference books? The only one I can think of is the Classic Warships Pictorial and lastly,
d) a list of after market bits that applies to these kits? Decals, PE, barrels, resin and the like.
Darren at Hawkgraphics has done alternate decals for 1/350 scale i thinks!!

The Ticonderoga-class CGs Cowpens, Anzio, Vicksbur, Port Royal, Gettysburg, Chosen, and Hue City are going to be decommissioned this year and next, far, far, before the ends of their expected life spans.

The muscle of the US Navy is being ripped away. I hope everyone is liking the Hope and Change they voted for.

When I was at Pearl Harbor the last 2 weeks there was talk about the administration removing 2 cruisers from pearl harbor and either reassigning them or decommissioning them....dont know if these were in addition to the ones already listed or 2 more added to the list. Did get to snap a photo or two of the USS Lake Erie and USS Pinckney in port

Not sure which ship is docked to the left of the Erie in the first photo...pretty sure its another Ticonderoga class. It possibly may be from the Stennis battlegroup as the Stennis was there also.....

I'd post more but they're not CGs... I've got some similar photos of Stennis. I was at Pearl on Tuesday and Wednesday (21st and 22nd) visiting the Memorial, Bowfin, Air Museum, and Missouri. Enjoyable days.

When I was there in April of last year Port Royal pulled in while we were on the Arizona Memorial. Got some nice shots with the telephoto. I sent them into NavSource but they never got posted for some reason. They're on my other hard drive so I'll post them up here tomorrow. Also got some nice ones of the Navajo, some assorted DDGs, FFGs, SSNs, and an old decommed AE mixed in. Did either of you guys make it around to the backside of the harbor and see the ghost fleet? Mainly a bunch of old amphibs but still very cool.

No, I was lucky enough to get the two days that I did, and if I'd have asked for special access it would have been to pay respects to Utah.

Once you are on Ford Island I thought you were free to roam as I didn't see any gates except for the one at the causeway. Dad and I were driving around and exploring the Island when I suddenly saw a big honking LHA superstructure with a big white "1" on it. We pulled into a parking lot outside of some nondescript small buildings and there was the ghost fleet. It was late in the afternoon on a weekday but no on was around. We were very close by to the Utah when we found them and I want to say you could see some of them sticking up over buildings if you were on the memorial deck at the Utah. I'll post the shots in another thread if anyone is interested.

As promised, here's Port Royal passing astern of the Missouri on her way to the piers. They were shot from inside the Arizona Memorial on April 5, 2011. PM me an e-mail for the high-res versions (20 megs worth).

That's the Missouri on the right.

Lake Erie had pulled in later in the day after we had left but I got this shot of her (and some SSNs) the next day from the main deck of the Missouri.

Yeah post em if you got em....I spent almost 2 weeks on Oahu (Feb 7-21)with my daughter and her husband touring Pearl, Hickam, Schofield, Wheeler, MCBH Kaneohe and Ft Shafter. He was called back to the mainland so I lost out on any special access or tours after the first week. My daughter has limited access to areas and we were stopped on the bridge to Ford Island for not having the "right" sticker on her windshield. Never did find out what that "right" sticker was. She has 3 of em and a military ID. We were allowed on but with a stern warning. I dont think Ford Island is as free to "roam around" as you might have thought. We did get to see a little bit the ghost fleet but I failed to get any pictures. If you have them I'd really like to see them. Posted some pictures of the Stennis when she arrived on the 17th, took a boatload of pictures just havent gone thru all them yet.

Ford Island is certainly not free-access for civilians; you're not even allowed to use your camera on the shuttle bus

I know they would not let me on Ford Island without my daughter or son in law being with me....and yep NO pictures from the shuttle bus............but take all you want from the Missouri or Arizona or Utah. When we were there we were told that the Utah had limited access, so we didnt attempt to go see that as there isn't any parking there that I was aware of.

We drove the rental car straight onto the island and Dad's ID and the rental paperwork was enough for the gate guards all week. Guess if you have the ID they don't care what you do while you're on the island. Didn't realize they kept on such a short leash if you didn't have one. I figured you told them you were going to the Missouri or the Air Museum and they gave you a visitor's pass and sent you on your way with stern warning of what not to do. Live and learn, thanks for the clarification guys.

I'll post the Ghost Fleet shots in a new thread in a few minutes.

Dam Cliffy B you almost made me shed a tear looking at those pics. Just a flood of memories came back to me looking at them. I was station on USS Ben Stoddert, USS Chosin (on the list to be Decom), and USS Paul Hamilton. I loved being station at Pearl, just a great base to be at compared to some others in my opinion. Really enjoyed my time Pearl Harbor.

I think someone was asking for this:

USS Bunker Hill after modernization, note the new square looking SPQ-9B radar on the foremast and the removal of the AN/SPS-49 radar from the mainmast:

Oh and here's a youtube video of the ship:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3vI_kqV-_0

I use to dislike the blocky look of the ship, but now that I'm building a model it's growing on me.

Sad day. USS Vincenness is in the middle of being scrapped.

It looks like the US Navy does not know how to mothball ships any more. Afterall, we have LCSs to buy.

I found this of the drawings for the CSGN designs. Just looking at the drawings the ships would have been very good looking ship if they had been build. Interesting designs that were put fore.

The question that immediately pops into my mind is whether these were actual designs under considerationby the Navy or were "what if" creations of someone with the screen name of Shipbucket.
Scrolling down to the bottom of the page, there is a description of what Photobucket is. Given that, the, I'm considering these as imagination rather than official Navy considerations.

The bottom two drawings I have seen before many many years before in different books (pre-internet). The top drawings are the first time I have seen those designs.
