On the directors platform.
I cant find pictures of two funnel IJN Nagato or IJN Mutsu clear enough when they had the 12,7 AA guns and the AA directos platforms (like the new released 1933 1/700 IJN Nagato by Aoshima) but I guess they had also that alternative position back then(early '30's when for the first time the AA directos platforms were first erected) too.

Wow Atam. You were spot on about nagato!..I was doing some last minuet reviews before I bomb some mad money on the new fujimi nagato kit and flyhawk PE and wood deck to see if it was worth my time to make her into her 1944 since I already have the the lionraor 44 PE kit ..and there is just about nothing that changed on her. From 41 to 44 minus adding radar and AA guns!

I never notice that difference before to be honest.
Noone of the IJN Nagato class battleships at the market offer that difference, between IJN Nagato and IJN Mutsu, and to be honest the platforms for IJN Mutsu available in the 1/350 and the numerous 1/700 kits resemble more of the IJN Nagato variant than the IJN Mutsu.
Thought and comments ?
Thanks in advance.

Time to post the correct location of the forward single 25 mm AA guns. Red Arrow is the location and Blue Arrow the ammo boxes:
Arround the anchor chains:

The location on a IJN Nagato 1/700 by Fujimi

Image
In the real ship

The rest forward single 25 mm AA guns.

And the loaction on the real ship:

Notice that the single ones arround the turrets are not symetrical on the real ship, like Aoshima 1/700 1945 IJN Nagato and 1/350 IJN Nagato by Hasegawa.

And redoctober27, all battleships (and IJN Heavy Crusier) had their training aiming devices on top of her turrets removed by 1944.
What I mean ? Take a look at that picture:
Image
The "thing" in the red square shall be removed from all the turrets.

Good morning.
I began in the Japanese battleships, and I want to make my first Japanese battleship.
But I know nothing.
I really like the Nagato or Kongo, but I can not make my choice, I hesitate between Yamashiro, Hiei or another.
Can you tell me about a beautiful Japanese battleship kit at 1/700?

thank you

Depends what you want first, late war (a battleship infested with AA guns? Or early war, when still the big guns ruled the waves). I will suggest the IJN Kongo for the first case and in particular this one in 1/700, Fujimi's IJN Kongo:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10077557.

and IJN Haruna:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10088567

State of the art molds and lots of PE set in the market.
For an early war mode, there is a lot of options, first there is a new mold IJN Hiei and IJN Kirishima by Fujimi and again with a lots of PE options, also a 1941 period IJN Nagato and IJN Mutsu again by Fujimi new mold's and they are far better than Aoshima. Also the upcoming IJN Yamashiro and IJN Fuso with two different options, one for 1941 and one for 1944 for both ships(they will be available at June).
IJN Kirishima:http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10158315
IJN Hiei:http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10122030
IJN Mutsu:http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10106871
IJN Nagato:http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10098688
IJN Yamashiro 1941(out in June):http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10184507
IJN Yamashiro 1944(out in June)::http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10184508
IJN Fuso 1941(out in June)::http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10182386
IJN Fuso 1944(out in June)::http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10182387
and the Hybrid IJN Ise in aircraftcarrier/battleship mode:http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10160879
There is also a limited release of IJN Kirishima and IJN Hiei for the price of one in one box:
But I think the best option is this, Fujimi's special release of new moulded IJN Hiei in 1/700 that comes with a complete set of PE, in low price:
http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ42022

And remember all of the above comes with a full hull option too(minus the IJN Kirishima, IJN Ise and the upcoming IJN Yamashiro's and IJN Fuso's), they a bit more expensive than the waterline only version though. The full hull mode can be build also in a waterline version.

At the moment if you want an out of the box accurate and easy to build ship yes. Of course all kinds of PE sets are a welcome addition.

Hi all.
I have started the Nagto in 1927 by Aoshima and the first thing i want to clarify is whether by 1927 the small support sticks underneath the net catwalks around the ship had been removed or they were still there.From the online pictures i found , it is not clear if they were still present or not , and also up to what length they were running.

By the way , reading the previous posts, regarding the missing pipes on the funnel, i found this very enlightening picture for those wanting to add that detail.

The small support sticks underneath the net catwalks around the ship had been removed ONLY after the IJN Nagato and IJN Mutsu had the "single" funnel conversion.
According to J.Fukuri, IJN Battleships 1913-1923, a picture of IJN Mutsu - dated 5 September 1934- show them clear, at that time she was in drydock for her final conversion. So the small supports for the net catwalks shall be present for the 1927 and the 1933 version as well, of Aoshima's IJN Nagato in 1/700.
Dont forget to add the various missing davits too Kosta.

Thanks a lot.
I presume they were present for the entire length of the catwalks
