Calling all Ohio-class (SSBN/SSGN) fans
Has anyone seen any pics online of the New SSGN-726 Ohio's Missile doors, especially of them open?
I'm curious what someone would have to do to convert the DML kit.

Re: Calling all submarine fans.
I assume you've checked Navsource's page on her and her sisters during conversion to SSGN?

Florida has closeup of the launch tube and hatch in second and fourth last pics here:

Good Call! I had checked there, but somehow missed the Michigan page. I sorta found what I was looking for there.

SSGN info
As you know, the first of the Ohio class SSBN were converted to SSGN.
In this process, 22 of the 24 missile tube were converted to launch Tomahawk missiles and hold canisters for Special Operations equipment.
My question is if the "surface detai/configurationl" of these subs have changed once the conversation was completed. From my LITTLE knowledge of SSGN, if they changed ONLY the missile tubes, the tubes would be different only in the inside, not the exterior.
It was just that I thought they might make the tubes kinda of "squarish" for the Tomahawk VLS. I don't know if the exterior circle could/would accommodate the VLS system. But then that's me thinking!!

Re: Calling all USS Ohio class (SSBN/SSGN) fans
I'd like to add a 1/700 Ohio class sub to my "modern" US fleet. It appears the exterior of the sub is the same either in SSBN/SSGN configuration so no worries there. Can someone direct me to a decent model company for this sub? Im having a hard time finding a 1/700 scale model of this class. Thanks in advance fellow modelers!!!

Thx Harry,
UNfortunately they are out of stock and no sight of restock in sight. Just a side note question: What type of quality are the OBM models for the price one has to pay.

For what it's worth, there's a slight change to the shape of the turtle back on the SSGNs where the DDSs are mounted. The slope angle changes to allow a wider "deck" area:

I knew Tracy would have the definative word on this.... Would one be able to really see these "wider deck" changes of a couple feet in 1/700 scale?

Naw, Tom's the sub expert! I'm just a useful idiot.
That said, in1/700th scale, it all depends on how "sensitive" to lines you are and how much you know. I could tell, but I spend a lot of time looking at things and committing shape & detail to memory. Other people.... well you might put "688" on an Ohio hull and they'd be happy with it.
