First I want to thank you for your kind correspondence. I believe I neglecte in doing that.
As to the range finders andthe Lion Roar set, I thought that was what resin part RI was. There are four of them inthe Lion Roar set replacinga kit set. Compare the two, and it would not be too hard dress up the kit part to look substantally similar. Then again I think I can scratch the range finders with brass and plastic if need be.

Also, what part is the headlight cover in the bismarc set you alluded.

Finally, please cnfirm that the veteran headlight set will work--that's te real issue for me because I admittedly could not buiild those from scratch.

Hello Sauertag: Let me be a little more specific as I must not be totally understanding your question. First, the searchlight covers in the Bismark set are the domed ribbed structures on either side of the funnel. Prinz Eugen had these during the period 1940-42. The Trumpeter kit shows her in 1945-46 configuration, by which time she had quad 20 flak guns on the funnel platform in place of searchlights and the domed covers.
2nd, if you mean by headlight, the searchlight set, by Veteran, which includes the searchlights, signal lamps, and bulkhead loudspeakers, this set can be used on Bismark class, Scharnhorst class, and Hipper class, as well as others. I was just building some of the searchlights last night for my Blucher and they are really exellent. You get six in each set, which should be enough for one ship model.
By the way, if I seem to be representing myself as some kind of expert, let me assure you I am a dedicated amature. Hope this helps Dan

Just received Vom Origienll zum Modell, it really does not have the info I need. I also have the Kagero text and another book on the Hipper class. I really hate spending 50-60 dollars on references, only to find the are of no help. What other text can be recommended?

One question to anyone who may know....Did the Prinz Eugen in 1945 configuration have a bare metal funnel cap or a gray colored one? I have seen both represented in completed models but my references are inconclusive. Also, where would the accommodation ladders be stowed while underway? I have seen them deployed in reference pics when he is anchored but none when she is underway.

A little update on my build. I've got a lot of work to do yet. everything that is fitted is only dry stacked for now until final fitment and finish the paint. Mine is not as good looking as everyone else's model, since it's been along time since I've built any model ship. This has been my first time dealing with the photo etched parts and it definitely is a lot more tedious work.

Here is an update on my 1/350 trumpeter Prinz Eugen with Flyhawk super update set, Pontos deck, and veterans Bofors guns. I pretty much finished the bridge and conning tower section with the exception of the foremast, retracting bridge wings, and some other small details. I included a picture of the beautiful radar array which is comprised of 18 separate pieces of photoetch. I also delved into the construction of the AA guns. Of note are the 20mm quad mounts on the third deck which are 13 photoetch pieces and one modified kit part. I made 2 of six so far and each took about 2 hours each to construct. The other single mounted bofors which are made of about 10 photoetch pieces, 1 brass barrel from Veteran, and a 1.2mm x 1.5mm styrene rod as a base. I made 5 of 18 so far. These also take nearly 2 hours for each and finally made me realize I needed an Optivisor. These are a lot of work but the results, I think, are worth it. The flying bridge is also a photoetched replacement and the windows were created with Kristal Klear. I am now working on the stack assembly while slowly working my way aft. Very soon I think I should attach it to a base since it is becoming more fragile every day.

wow this is a beautiful build ! I am scratchbuilding the admiral hipper in 1:144 scale at the moment , my plans are stating she was 205,9 M long after 1942 the wikipedia stated that she was outfitted with a clipper bow and thats why the ship ended up longer , but my plans show a atlantic bow and not a clipper bow , any info on this ? ? But the photos and your model is really amazing and its helping me out quite a lot with minor details , my last question is , where would the depth charge racks have been ? ?

I know that it was launched with the Straight bow but shortly thereafter, in the early part of 1940 and before completion, the "Atlantic" or raked bow was installed. There were no depth charges on board.

It is a 1/100 Hull from Scale Shipyard. The rest is scratch built, with fittings from different German companies. It is 83" long and weighs about 32lbs.

how much would a 1:100 scale hull cost about ? ? Because i am almost fed up of trying to build one due to that curve it has in the hull , drives me nuts

I finally finished this project after about nine months. The final roll call of additions include the FLYHAWK super detail set, Pontos deck, Veteran's brass bofor barrels, Eduard pre-painted DKM figures, and numerous scratchbuilt items including bulkhead ductwork, pieces of the mast, rear machine gun on Arado, some radars, boat booms, and prop guards to name a few. All glass portholes, bridge windows, motor launch windows, and searchlights were glazed with Micro Crystal clear. The bulk of the painting was done with MM enamels with some Vallejo acrylics, and oil paints for bare wood surfaces and weathering. I also used various shades of colored pencils to highlight different details. Rigging was done with a combination of EZ line and fly fishing line. The water effect was my usual Acrylic gel medium painted with acrylics, and coated with Future Floor Polish. This has been a labor of love/hate (at times), but I am very happy with it.

Wow, that is one nice looking Prinz. Love/hate ... I know what you mean. I had problems fitting the stairs through the deck opening, and were to position the extra torpedo boxes drove me up the wall. No matter how often I counted, I always had four torpedos left, and no clue where to put the stowage boxes for them (later I learned that they stowed them inside the torpedo shop, with the warheads removed).

Anyway, those photos should be added to the gallery...

What now? Building his sisters?

That model is creepy and erie how real it looks.. and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! It's amazing. I half expected the sailors to start moving. I'm amazed and inspired. Don't be surprised if i blow up your inbox looking for tips on that water.


In other news I just ordered a 1/700 Trumpeter Prinz Eugen, 1/700 Trumpeter Graf Spee, and 1/700 Dragon Bismarck from Squadron since they've got a web sale going on this week. So I'll be adding some of the best German classics to my box pile
