Or without it having a helo crammed in there, take from the outside on a sunny day, so that you can't see more than 5 feet in without hitting hard shadow! :thumbs_up_1:

Hi. I'm interested in the Trumpeter Arleigh Burke 1/350 model, I'm now looking for aftermarket. I see that WEM have a set:
http://www.steelnavy.com/WEM350Burke.htm

but it says that set is meant to be used with the Panda model, is there a lot of differences between the TRU and Panda models?

What other Photoetched choice do I have?

The WEM set is fine for the Trumpeter kit too... The Panda/Dragon kit is much older and is missing lots of details. The Trumpeter kit is better in every aspect. :thumbs_up_1:

So the Trumpeter kit, WEM set and Veteran Models resin accessories.

What about the Yankee Model Photoetch, I see that they make a set too

Yankee Model was bought by Blue Ridge. Don't know if that PE set is still available. Pacific front was selling off all the stock and I don't recall seeing any PE on their Close Out page.

Gold Medal Models has a Modern Warships PE set that is for "Burkes and others"

Thanks, I'll get the GMM set too.

Here's a list of aftermarket that I found, I hope it can help someone in the future:

Resin turret+barrel from Voyager
WEM PE set
GMM PE set

FROM VETERAN MODELS:
CIWS
Mk38 25mm machine gun , Torpedo tubes
SQL 32 ECM SRBOC chaf
USN RHIB

Now a question for you, I see Dragon have an Arleigh Burke in 350. Should I choose the Dragon model of the Trumpeter one?

The Trumpeter one. The Dragon one is a repop or modified repop (depending one which kit you get) of the old Panda kit, with its various inaccuracies.

I see...so I'll get the Trumpy. I like the most the Flight I.

Is there any major differences between the Arleigh Burke and the John Paul Jones?

What time period? The Arleigh Burke kit represents an as-commissioned fit. If you want to model one of the Flight I ships at a later date, you might want the Cole or Hopper kits, which have more communication domes and a different structure on top of the bridge.

Looking at JPJ pictures, it seems her above-bridge structure is of the type offered in the Hopper and Cole kits that is not in the Arleigh Burke kit, so you should get either the Cole or Hopper kits if you want to make JPJ.

I grabbed a 1/350 Dragon The Sullivans that just arrived in the mail. Normally, I build WWII-era ships, so this is new to me.

Other than replacing the props, Harpoon Launchers, and Phalanx guns, what you do you all recommend I pick up? I'm OK with the PE provided, save some items I can make with my extras box.

Veteran models bridge equipment set, SRBOC decoys and RHIBs. You will need to add a lot of detail that is missing on the bulkheads and you should definately buy the WEM pe set, because you can add a ton of missing detail...

Here are some pics of the same kit I built last year. If you ask me now, I would have bought the Trumpeter one...

I like it. How many units does each Veteran accessory come with? Am I going to have to spend 12 bucks on each Harpoon launcher. More importantly, is Veteran ever going to restock?

Thanks for the help.

In short, why are there no 1/700 Flight IIa kits? Have they been pulled for retooling ? I remember Dragon having 2 or 3 different ones in the past.

Hobby Boss is in the process of reproducing the Trumpeter 350th kits in 1/700 - they started from -51 and are soon to be at -82 Lassen. I expect the full Flight IIA configuration kits to come out soon after as well.

Were any transverse beams on the real boat buckled yet?

If you take a close look at close ups of the hulls, you will see that in very recent years large, the Navy has installed large patches of thicker steel on certain areas of the hull. It looks like spot armor, but it's not. The buckling has become so bad that the transverse bulkheads had to be repaired, and supplemental strength had to be added to the exterior of the ship.
