Not sure if this has been stated here or not. Just heard from a retailer that Nichimo has closed shop. So getting replacement parts for your 1/200 Yamato will be fun.

Has anybody noticed much similarity in design of Yamato and Missouri ? It's interesting, which design came first, perhaps, the american?

Yamato design work started in '34 or '35 I believe. Ship was laid down in '37.

Iowa was a third generation of US battleship. North Carolina and South Dakota class came before it and the Iowa was improvement of these designs. Iowa was laid down in 1940.

There was little known about Yamato until after Iowa was constructed.

here is another IJN and specifically yamato fan.

but 100k.. need to check my stash.

she must be very heavy actually but I could not figure out any weight on the webside?

i hope the future is not pure metal modells... somehow i dont like too much and think plastic is much more comfortable to work with.

That has to be THE most insane Yamato build I have ever seen. But the price ... I wonder if the asking price is one decimal point off? I can see 1,000,000 yen, but 10,000,000??

hi guys
As we have no Yamato or Musashi left , is there any photos recently of where these ships were built. I mean the slipway for Musashi and the drydock for Yamato
is it true that the 1/10 model is built where the Yamato was built.
googled both sites and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is a huge place,
sorry lots of questions.. what yard built Yamato
thanks guys

Yamato was built in Kure. The drydock where Yamato was built is right outside the Yamato Museum. See here:

Or just google "Yamato dock Kure"

Back to my 1/200 Nichimo Yamato. Just finished the 25mm open mounts. Used Harry O's base, guns, and front mechanics. The seats must have been a bad cast because they were too small. I also used parts from the GPM PE set (target sight, seats, and foot support).

Here is a pic of the guns. Sorry for the bad quality. Next up will the 5" covered turrets.

You're a better man than I. I only used the guns and cartridges from a PE set from Poland that I put on top of the Nichimo mounts. The rest of that stuff was way too detailed for my old eyes....

I think we both are about the same age so I understand the eyes.

I tried to put the GPM PE guns together but I got sick of glueing 4 small pieces of PE for just one ammo box. I made 28 mounts so a total of 112 peices of small PE having to glue together. No thank you.

Im using the 25mm guns I got from GPM on the enclosed mounts. I got some cork board and stuck them in. Hope it comes out.

I made about 30 mounts (the model is not nearby for me to count them), and it took me 1 HOUR EACH just to put the 3 barrels and 3 cartridges together from the GPM PE.

Here is a pic of the 5" turret. Used foil tape to get some detail. Hope it works.

Foil tape? Did you put it over the Nichimo 5" turret? I don't understand. Please explain - it really looks nice.

I used copper foil tape and a rivit maker. I have a 1/200 paper model of Yamato that I used as a patern for the parts. I used a hole puncher and some note book backing cardboard (forget what its called) for the vents. Styrene snd corrugated foil for the turret opening . Once I put the rails on the turret I can paint it and see if it comes out right.

I also did this for the 25mm closed turrets.
