Also, the bus shelter opening below bridge, stbd side on Rodney, was this ever plated over, or did she have it for her entire life?

It was defintely there for the rest of her life and never plated over.

As for those colours I haven't researched those yet. Maybe John Snyder (from WEM) may help you out with that?

HMS Nelson 1942, MS-1, MS-2, MS-3, AP507C

HMS Rodney 1942, MS-1, MS-2, B5, AP507C, White.

I have started both Nelson and Rodney, it is going well so far, i have five kits for two builds, got to get another WEM set though, i did beat the carpet monster several times.

I need accurate dimentions of Nelson's 16/45 guns
ie lenght outside turret
diameter at base at step and at tip
actually a good size plan of the gun would be great
The only reference I found is the the guns were 249cm apart

Can someone please explain to me the pros and cons of these two ships ...What was the reasoning for having main gun turrets in the bow.... Thanks Kevin....

Compressing the main battery in the bow allowed them shorten the ship thus shortening the length of the deck and side armor. This saved weight and allowed them to use thicker armor and other items while still remaining within the treaty displacement limits.

This picture is supposed to be of the Nelson and it might help you with some details of the gun mountings on X turret. I think it's from after the 1944 refit but any dating observation/information you could provide about it would be much appreciated.

I had the larger version but I resize the pics to 1450 pixels wide for the blog as it's meant for the general public and people tend to complain when pics are too big for their laptop.

Just wanted to share some images I took tonight (Thanksgiving is already over with, so don't think I'm a hopeless shut-in) of my Tamiya 1/700 scale HMS Nelson. It was my surprising success (surprising for me, at any rate) with this vessel that got me back into ship modeling; as you can tell by my signature, I have her sister Rodney in my stash and am contemplating starting her soon.

Unfortunately, a while back she took heavy damage from an accidental elbow bash that saw her base-up on the floor.

What is the difference between the Rodney and Nelson 1/700 Tamiya kits? I have the notion that Rodney is in a pre-war state. I have the Nelson kit and it's obviously a late-war refit. (I did observe further back in this thread that the vast majority of the Oerlikons are absent - wow!)
