Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
Thank Secondo! I like it very much Regia Marina, always want to do about a taranto or genoese naval port model, the scene outside except LITTORIO will have VITTORIO VENETO and Caio Duilio. Hope can be completed as soon as possible!

Thanks again for all the information on the barrels etc.

Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
Thank you.
Thats a very nice model you have there.
I hope to do the earlier one with wood deck on the stern.
I have now found a manufacturer that makes the PE set for this ship.
So after my present build , 'maybe' this will be next

Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
I just stumbled upon the fact that they found the Roma. Hm.
I've visited the site and seen the two pictures they have release of her wreck. Does anyone (particularly in Italy) know of any expeditions planned or that have taken place to survey the wreck? Are there additional photographs available?
I'm a huge marine archeology buff and would love to know more about her remains.

Hello
is in progress the mapping of the wreck, the photos that were disclosed are:
In a program that was broadcast on TV tonight, in the movies we have seen the tower of command, the pitch of the left center of the ship with weapons aa , A tower 381 mm upside down on the bottom and 90 mm batteries and other parts.
Ciao
Giampiero
In this photo: the third photo is the tower from 381 mm upside down

So.. her superstructure may very well be intact?!
I'm not susprised with the 381 mm laying on its back. I bet that's the gun that was blown off by the glider bomb. It's always interesting/utterly tragic to see a great ship on the bottom like that. I'm looking forward to the completion of the survey. Thanks for your help.

What color were Littorio's boats at Taranto?
What color were Littorio's boats at Taranto?
in particular, what was the color below the waterline? light grey, as Trumpeter seems to indicate? black? green?antifoulingred? were the decks on the larger boats natural wood or painted?
TIA, Richard

Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
Dear Fellow Modellers,
After childhood I haven't built ship models, but started again with Trumpeters Roma + Flyhawks PE. Must say the progress in kit industry is tremendous! I have found already a lot of information from this site, thanks to all of you providing this valuable help.
Now that the detailing has reached insane levels, I hope you could give me some hints on Roma. On the attached picture I have circulated some points, which are confusing me:
- the square flat piece on the side of the platform, what is it? I noticed that some modellers have omitted it, so maybe it is a later installation?
- the kit has four windows in this turret, but from this picture I can only see three of them. Is there a window hiding around the corner?
- whats the use of the boxed structures beside the windows?
Yours,
Risto

Thank you Giampiero !
Another question that's puzzling me is the color of the life rafts. Many modellers seem to opt for orange, but for example the pictures you posted of the boats the rafts are grey. Did they use different colors during the service of Roma ?

Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
I have now proceede to painting the red and white stripes on the foredeck, but need some advice. From b&w photos it's very hard to tell, if all installations on the deck have been painted with white and red, or maybe with some other colour? Especially on the capstans there are some vertical lines that seem to be of different colour, maybe the paint has faded away in use? I presume the 4 AA guns are gray.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Theorically, everything sitting on the forecastle into the striped zone had to be painted accordingly, but the capstans might well have lost some paint with the chains' wear.
AA Guns, which were normally to be stowed into their WT bins, were grey.

Hello friends !
Can anyone tell what was the purpose of that structure (red circle)?
And what was the purpose of the yellow circle rangefinder ?

Thanks in advance.
