Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
I purchased the 1/700 Wonsan Kaga detail set before looking clearly what kit it was meant for. In the end, I have the Fujimi photo etch and this set for my Fujimi Kaga and still none for my Hasegawa Kaga. I was wondering if anyone has tried using the Fujimi photo etch on the Hasegawa kit and are there any significant problems encountered?

I haven't tried it but I wouould think that, aside from the Fujimi railings, which are probably fitted exactly for the Fujimi kit, everything else has enough of a fudge factor to be usuable. The reailings might have to be forced a little. Please let us know how it goes if you should do this.

Read a web sight tonight on the internet that the two new HHD's building in Japan will be named Kaga and Akagi (Kaga Class) They will start next year building two more HHD's of a different class. (26HHD Project)

I was kinda hoping they would apply those names to proper CVs. Speaking of these new ships, an article in today's NY Times had this familiar ring: "... and two large helicopter-carrying destroyers that could be retrofitted to carry fighter jets that can take off vertically. "

Yes, I read this class of two ships will both have the special heat resistent proofing on the flight deck to have the f-35's. Also the next two which will start construction next year (26DDh project) will be all aviation the web sight said.
I think their looking at China's one carrier and making several because they can still put the heat resistent coating on the Hyuga Class. To have all their eggs not in one basket so to speak. If China goes bigger which I think they will (To much pride) then Japan is going to have to do something about their constitution. It is a step back in time though. Seeing carriers built in groups of two and looking at some pictures of Hyuga's hangar deck is a step back in time of a picture I have seen of Junyo's hangar deck when scrapping the ship. They did not loose their knowledge and ability to build carriers.

Agreed. I would not be surprised to learn that a number of proper CV designs have been formulated over the years, just to keep pace with developments.

Has anyone seen the AJ Press book on the Kaga and was/is it any good? It doesn't seem to have been distributed very widely.

Kaga book's release has been delayed. Should be (hopefully) released in Apr '13.

Thanks, Gilbert. From all the retail sites I looked at, it seemed it had come and gone already.

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Jeff Lin has just posted his excellent work of 1/700 IJN Kaga onto his blog:-

He said Fujimi kit + Fujimi PE + 3rd party PE deck (not recommended) have been used.

Its a fantastic build. Do you know whose flight deck he used? Looks like a Flyhawk deck but, I don't think they put one out.

Dear Dan, as I know, he used a set of Kaga PE deck, from a brand new Chinese supplier named "Yuenshan", but Jeff said (stated in his article) that he did not recommend to use this PE setDan K wrote:Its a fantastic build. Here are some picture of the PE set I've found on Internet:-
