Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Hi Ed, Thanks for the link much better price at 14 but only in 1/200, I could really do with 1/100 or larger. Found the plans tab for loyalhanna guess I shouldn't have used their search engine, 75 a better price but I did find them once for about 50 before somewhere just wish I knew where?
Well a bit of searching and I found Fleetscale 1/96 for 45 haven't added shipping but should be under 50. Are these good plans?

Fujimi will release a IJN Musashi in 1/700 with a "water base"(like the IJN Yamato), the model is the old mold.

Guys,
Are there replacements for the 6in gun turrets? Or are they reasonably accurate?

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Is there any online source to see drawings of how the Yamato appeared in 1942?

Online ? No, but the Anatomy of Ship:IJN Yamato has an accurate drawing of early war IJN Yamato.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Gentlemen, I am new here and would appreciate any advise about IJN Yamato. I am working on a future project of building the 1:350 Tamiya New Tool IJN Yamato with all the extras. I have 18 reference books on the Yamato (most in Japanese), but I can't seem to get any highly detailed information and drawings on how this boat is rigged. I would say the hardest part is how the rigging is attached and with what devices. I noticed through the material I have the drawings show the rigging but don't exactly show where on the ship it's attached. Looking at everyones builds I noticed small round attach points on the upper lines. Looking at the information I have, I found a drawing on some kind of insulator, round in shape that interlocks the rigging to each other. I am just guessing about this. If anyone has a clue where I can get a rigging document, please post this here. I would like to know what all the other modelers are using to replicate this connector on their builds and where to put them. PS. I had contacted Tamiya but I am not important enough for a response.
Thank you for your advise.
Jim

It is not a boat; it is a ship. Anyway, Anatomy of the ship Yamato, or Super Illustration Battlesip Yamato should contain most of the info/

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
A damn big ship. I went to see the USS North Carolina and was amazed at the size. And to think Yamato was 150 feet longer and 20 feet wider. And 30,000 more tons.
Regarding Yamato rigging...best think I can tell you to do is look at the 1/10 Yamato model at the Yamato museum in Kure. Might want to use putty/clay for the connectors or maybe white glue.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
I have 2 tamiya Yamato kits and I am considering making one into a "what-if" kit, making Yamato a present day warship, modernised and armed with launchers and the flight deck for choppers and even F-35. Is it possible for F-35 to operate with such a small deck? Also are there any references and parts that I can get? Thanks.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Not as they are - while originally advertised as capable of vertical take-off, it has turned out to not actually be the case in any realistic situation. You'll need a runway to assist with Short Take Off (for rough idea of length needed, see Youtube videos of F-35B trials on USS Wasp), or a catapult.Yamato2020 wrote: Is it possible for F-35 to operate with such a small deck?
