I'm actually building a USS Yorktown CG48 from the Dragon Kit. Are there any good pictures of the mainmast's rigging somewhere? Neither Warship Pictorial nor Ray Beans collections show really useful pictures.

Hi all.
Now I'm building a model of the Yorktown CG-48 in 1/350 from Dragon.
I have a question about propellers, whether he will approach the propellers from Arleigh Burke-class destroyers?

I used the G-Factor Arleigh Burke propellers on my USS Yorktown. I think they are more similar to the real ones than the propellers provided with the kit.

Unless the Ticos got new screws which I doubt, they are NOT the same as the Burkes. The Ticos and Sprucans shared screws but the Burkes got new ones. Both are 5 bladed but the blades differ in design.

Of course the propellers aren't the same. But in comparison to the ones provided with the kit they are much more similar. Still some filing to do on the Burke's ones of course.

The difference between them is visible. I think you can use a G-factor for the Burke-class, slightly processed form of the blades. And probably have to do a homemade screws.

Just so you know, the GMM Modern USN set has PE screws for both types If that's a route you want to go/if you need anymore PE. You'll have to bend the blades appropriately but they might look better to you.

Pretty sure that was never carried out - it'd be a pretty obvious addition if it was supposed to be external! And even if it was internal, it does say that it would affect the deck's shear line, and I don't see any change in that on any of the ships.

No. It was extremely common in 2008, 09, and 10 for surface combatants to have blue anti-fouling paint. Every CG and DDG that came out of Portsmouth/Norfolk naval shipyard had the blue anti-fouling paint. Only the large ships like LHDs had red. Yokosuka, however, used all red for all ships from 2010 - 12. I think the Navy may have reverted back to the red.

The USN is experimenting with antifouling coatings. The Port Royal was the first ship to have the blue silicone coating applied. It isn't paint. I'm not sure if other ships have the silicone or what the evaluation determined or even if it is still ongoing.

The Canadian Navy started using blue paint a few years back as well.

Pardon my correction, but Port Royal was not likely the first. A minimum of 5 DDGs and 3 CGs all received it 2 years before Port Royal ran aground and pictures were taken of her with the blue coating.

Just wanted to know if the USS Leyte Gulf CG-55 is a Flight l or Flight ll. Also, what is the difference between the two? Thanks for any info in advance, Jim.

No, absolutely not. However, the idea is most interesting. I spent a lot of time during a long run thinking about this today, and I really see a lot of potential in this kind of modification. The Obama decoms would be great candidates for such a modification in 6 or so years during the Post Obama Rebuild. We could pull those ships and instead of simply recommissioning them heavily modify them to have a lot more life, a new super structure and use this modification to upgrade the guns and missile systems. This could lead to a CG with Mk71 guns, Mk41 and Mk57 VLS and many DDG-1000 aspects without going to the expense of a DDG-1000.



This would be a really fun model to build.

Good day,
I was looking at some photos of the Yorktown.. Trying to help a co-worker build a model for his brother in-law..
He had the ray bean CD which shows with the same domes as the vessel still in service.. we are both not sure which kit to use for 1999 version of the yorktown when he served on board.
