Well

Brandon told me I had to wait until the 8th to post this (post IPMS Nats opening) and now its the 9th... so here goes.

This is the Cad digital master for the 1/350 USS Gudgeon kit (presumably) released by Blue Ridge Models this weekend. Its designed to represent her as commissioned in 1952. I actually first did this model almost two years ago for Yankee Modelworks. However, since they have since closed and sold their stock to blue Ridge, Its BRM that has released it. As it was with Nautilus, some features are over-scale or simplified to work properly with RP at this scale. The hull shape was a total bear to get right, but in the end, was worth it as she just looks vicious. Without further ado, some renders.

Oh man, I would love to have a kit of her in Turkish service post-'83 - visited her in person when I was over there.

Another beauty Fritz, I can see why the hull was a bear to model, some real funky curves going on there.

Thanks Dean

If I have a chance tonight, I'll post some pics of the actual RP parts.

Very cool, thanks for the pics. :thumbs_up_1:

I'll bet that solid hull wasn't cheap, but it does have some very nice detail to it. And the small parts look like they turned out really well too. If you don't mind me asking, what material did you use?

Looking forward to seeing the finished model.

Hi

Great surface modelling. What CAD package did you use?

Hi Patman

Sorry for the delay in response, I missed that someone had actually replied to this.

To answer your question: The original model was started in CadKey version 7 (operates in Dos) with FastSurf 4.0 packeage, Then it was finished in Kubotek's KeyCreator version 9.0 (which is basically the original CadKey updated to operate in windows with Fastsurf and FastSolid integrated). While its nice having all the extra packages integrated, The operation in windows has all the related Bugs and memory issues that go along with it. Still wishing that Kubotek would get their act together and release a version that operates on a Linux kernel. ;)

PS: I see from the main forum you actually bought one! I hope you enjoy it. I just got my "payment" copy last week. Currently sitting in a soapy water bath to remove the release agent. Let me know if you have any constuction issues, feedback on kit design, or just questions in general. I'd be happy to answer!

Yes I´m making a comeback to scale ship modeling.
I´ll be focusing on cold war submarines and Argentine Navy vessels.
Here goes a pic of my dad´s ship (ARA Chiriguano , ex ATA 226.) supplying fresh water to MV Calypso, circa 1973.
I´ll be modding Iron Shipwright´s ATR model since it´s the only closest kit to an ATA.

Saludos

Looks like a fun endeavour Patman! Hope the mission proves to be rewarding. Maybe I'll have to make some 1/350 sealions for a future release. :heh:
