Best way for adding 1/350 Aircraft cockpits, Help needed

Post by simon b »

does anyone here have some words of wisdom or general tips on adding these to modern usn aircraft.
I'm fine with opening the top of the cockpit area up but it would appear you need to hollow out the rest of the cockpit area to fit the 'tub'

Whats the best way for that ?

Simon, which aircraft kits are you using, and I assume you are talking about adding the WEM interiors?

If it is the WEM interiors, then yeah, as you have figured already, they really do not fit well at all, and with all my builds of CVN's the best advice I can offer is that you need to get creative and start carving up the inside of the planes little by little and just keep test-fitting.

There is so little visible that I only add interior PE on aircraft with open canopies. for closed canopies, a simpler interior consisting of a couple tiny pieces of sturene chunk painted appropriately will look just fine.

Good luck

Ryan

Yes the culprits are Trump A6/A7's and WEM pe

I was going to give up but theres a modeller on a Czech model forum who's backdating the Enterprise (Beehive) and hes managed to add cockpit tubs to every aircraft !

I was thinking about a small grinding tool in a dremel going at slowish speed to just stroke the insides with.

My suggestion would be to use a small pin vise to hold your grinding tool. It gives you more control and you will not melt down your A6...

The best way I have found to use the WEM cockpit detail is not use them. Save yourself. Run away.
