After battling my way through the Christmas shopping frenzy ,I managed to get the Airfix T45 kit .My first impressions are very favourable ,the decal sheet provides all the numbers ,badges for all the ships of the class,including the short lived Dragon nose-art for HMS Dragon .The mouldings look to be very sharp and crisp.All in all it seems to be a great improvement over the Illustrious kit .What a pity those at Airfix have chosen not to do a 350th follow-up to this kit , HMS Ocean would have made a good subject.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm waiting till they reach us here in the States. Yes the Ocean would be nice, but so would a type 42 . Are you going to do a work in progress on this kit?

Has anyone else seen the pictures of the large tube cannisters mounted behind the AA missile deck and ahead of the Harpoon mounts? Discovered the other day they are launchers for large decoys that confuse incoming missiles

The Airfix instructions say that Tomahawk can also be carried when required. Any ideas where they would be shipped, and in what form? Is that a VLS item or armoured box launchers or what?
According to Warhip World "Selected" Type 45's may be fitted with Harpoon in 2013. Given that they can be fitted as and when required this will happen. As for Tomahawk this has been mentioned as something for the future. I suspect seeing the Navy will have to get past the Treasury this will take a long time!. I did read that there was some space for a possible vertical launch tomahawk but this cannot be done using the existing Aster launcher.

Having discovered 1:350 scale i can say i am well and trully hooked :0)
I took delivery of my Type 45 and was a little disapointed with the kit due to a lot of damage that parts have recived while in the box by this i mean that some of the panels are bent or twisted this was caused by the deck peice pushing in too it while in the sealed bag also due to some of the odd shaped sprues pushing on to some of the smaller parts which resulted in the barrel for the 4.5" being bent and snapped so in my limited opinion the packaging if a tad snug for the parts :0(
However the kit layout is good with very little over mould (think thats what its called) i have also dived in too the world of PE with a white ensign kit so will see how this goes befor taking on my yamato

Provision was made in the overall design for this type of weapon system in terms of space, wiring routes, power supply capacity, stability calculations and similar but no specific physical work will have been done as such to make the ship ready for an installation or to integrate the weapon into the overall command system. Such an installation would need quite a bit of further design work and also a considerable work package to actually install, followed by proving trials before it could be operational.
I haven't looked for differences between the individual ships but the one thing I have noticed is that Daring and Dauntless have a slight gap near the top of their mast, the others don't seem to have it.
Here's another possible diorama subject for all of you across the pond: HMS Dragon escorting the Russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, as mentioned in our forum's Kuznetsov fans thread.

In late October 2015, during a visit to Portsmouth, I had a chance to see the ships in person: there were 4 of them in Portsmouth at that time! Even though I am a pre-1945 ship modeler, seeing them "live" led me to decide and build one, so I went and bought a Trumpeter 1/350 kit... All I can say is that, as previously stated, the Airfix kit has its issues, so does the Trumpeter one. Much easier to build of course, but with several inaccuracies and overscale features on the hull in particular. I therefore decided to post several of the pictures I took during my visit in the hope that certain details may prove useful to fellow modelers.
Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything.
