I was finally able to make a trip out to Wesly Bolin Memorial Park today with my wife and daughter. This is a memorial park at the state capitol here in Arizona and it has many wonderful monuments. Included in these are ones dedicated to the USS Arizona. I'd like to share the pictures I took with the rest of you guys.
Navsource says (and has pictures) of main gun barrels from the Arizona and Missouri being transported to Arizona and according to navsource they arrived here in April, but they were no where to be found at the capitol. Does anyone know what happened to them?
I have been gone for a while and just recently decided to build the Arizona. After some thinking i decided to base my build off the new display model that is currently at the memorial, but in 1/700. Though mine turned out slightly more blue, I still like it. I was able to finish it as my own little memorial of Dec.7. I do not remember the manufactur but this build turned out to be one of the most detailed builds; It came with a PE set and it was also my first attempt at rigging. I am by far not as talented as many on here but I do what I can at the best of my ability! If anyone wants to see it let me know and I can post a few images
Great pictures of the USS Arizona Memorial...that's something I'd like to see someday.
I missed a chance to see a memorial to the USS West Virginia over the summer (on the WVU Campus); totally bummed.
I was recently browsing to see what kits might be available of the ship or it's class, as I'd like to build one someday.
While doing so, I came across a rather doleful story about a few crew members who were on board during the Pearl attack. http://www.usswestvirginia.org/stories/story.php?id=23
I don't really have any more words to describe it.
I'm collecting accessories for a 1/700 DML Arizona I'm going to start as soon as I get the kit in. I've heard the 5" deck guns aren't really the best and I'm getting a bit addicted to detail. According to what I've read, the 5" guns were 51 caliber but I can only find the 38 caluber open mounts from Niko available. From those of you who have build the kit, is it worth the 18 or so I'd pay for this guns? Are they fairly comparable?
Okay, new question. Regarding the Dragon 1/700, is the PE that comes in the Special Edition worth any extra investment in the kit, or would one be better served getting the basic kit and tossing a Tom's set on it?

The basic kit is not produced anymore, I think - all that's left are ones from the original run, hiding in the back of some old hobby shops.
The newer versions with the PE don't cost all that much anyway - under $30. The kit PE does not include the catapults though, so it might be worth it to get the Tom's catapults/radars-only set: http://www.freetimehobbies.com/TOM728.aspx
On the other hand, the full Tom's set is only three dollars more, so...

The only thing the PE set that comes with the dragon 1/700 is the brass barrels but still it is a nice set. If you look farther back, I have pictures of the dragon 1/700 Arizona I built and still touching up.
I really need to get hold of some accurate plans for my 1/200 Arizona build. I have nearly finished correcting the shape of the hull on my Trumpeter 1/200 Bismarck, (In work in progress), and am about to start correcting the hull on the Trumpeter Arizona... if I can find some plans that is!!
I have seen Tracy's posts way back when he checked the profiles, I need those same profiles. Please, where can I buy/download them from?
I really want to build Arizona before Bismarck, it just feels like the "right" thing to do??
I have ordered the Mk1 detail set from Lucky Model, my Arizona turned up today.. around 110 all in from Sell_Model on Ebay.... Bargain!!
I was all excited then, until i realised this company make it very difficult to buy anything from outside the US.. Do you know how much it costs to raise a USD cheque in the UK!!
I don't have that book myself... about the time it came out, there were a flood of posts by people who were having problems ordering from them, so I stayed away and just forgot to go back, I guess. I'd be interested in your impressions when you get it.
Floating Drydock is.... interesting. I'll leave it at that.
I have recieved the drawings. They e-mail them to you, and you print them out and stick the pages together.
They look pretty good to me..
I felt the service was very good. They actually print your name across the prints in 30mm high letters, so if you pass the prints on, you will be caught for copyright infringement.
I just bought the Stilwell book as well.
Could someone please let me know if the Ka set includes porthole details for the hull? My set still hasn't arrived and i want to correct the hull.
