I'm really enjoying working on her, she's coming along nicely. Once complete, the work on her hull will really make the difference to her overall appearance. She'll look great, and I'll be really proud of her.

Hi all,

Just a quick update, no pics I'm afraid as I'm over the pub!!

Tonight I realised I have not added enough material around the shaft fairings as I didn't have my template square. So.... I made some new templates that go over both sides of the hull, I can report that the rear 6" of the hull is too pointed!!

Anyway, I've added some material to bring the fairing back into place and have fitted one shaft extension. Boy oh boy did trumpeter get those bits wrong!! So wrong you need to carve away one side of them to make them closer to the actual shape. I'm starting to agree with some other guys on this forum.... Trumpeter made a mess of this!!

Thanks Nicolas, it is a lot of work, but I love it really!!

Here's some pics of it all, in the rough, and you can now see the difference between my work and Trumpeter's.



Note the new positions of the holes for the screw supports.



In the next end on pic please note the new modified support on the left of the picture and also the amount of plastic removed from the end of the centre screw fairing on the left side.



Though not perfect, this is much more accurate than the kit OOB. I would like to sort the shape of the stern out, but it would be very difficult, especially considering I have the MK1 wooden deck on order.

Finally, here's a pic of the front Docking keel, nearly finished...

It is a lot of work but definitely worthy it. I really want to add those docking keels to my 1/350 Revell but still do not know what is the correct plan and where to buy it.

Hi all,

I know it's been a while, and yes I have been busy on the Bissy

I have now completed the stern, ready for filling and smoothing out.



You may notice the original side has mostly been redone. This is due to the fact that I had the bright idea of filling the void behind with resin. Some of the resin didn't set, and eroded the plastic card which left sticky patches. I cut these patches out and re skinned local areas, but it became a never ending task. It was no good, I had to rip off all my hard work and start again!! I wont be doing that again!!!!!!!

Wait, what is that box my bismarck hull is resting on...



Yes, it's the Arizona. I will be starting on this one as soon as I get the plans through for, you guessed it, the hull mods!! I want to build the Arizona first to familiarise myself with all the MK1 design extras before I make a mistake on the Bismarck..... Watch this forum for more pics of hacked up Trumpeter Plastic!!

This is my first post as a member here and I want to compliment you on this build. I have been watching all of the Bismarck builds with tremendous interest. I have been doing initial research, read the entirety of Berndt's great hull thread. Again keeping to the focus of this first post. Just amazing and great attention to detail ... its a winner.

Nigel, to justify all this work you could do a diorama of the Bismarck rolling over as she sinks in heavy seas...

Gotta say I'm impressed though! After pondering the bottom of my boat I decided I just wasn't up to the task. I can't wait to see what you end up doing above the waterline with the same kind of dedication!

Thanks for the tip Jason.. perhaps I could motorise it, much like a rotisserie, with water splashes and all!!

The Stern is all but finished now. I'm currently working on the main central docking keel now.
