How to display your ships

I'll start off with a question. I have been collecting 1/1250's for a while now. I usually just put them on a cabinet shelf for display. How do you all do it? Do you stick them on a base? I am considering painitng a thin piece of plywood sea blue to use as a base. Your ideas more than welcome.

I don't work in 1250th, but I can easily imagine a smaller version of Jim B's 1/700 display cabinet w/seabase for each model would be quite effective: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=16218

Either
1) a wood base in full hull or
2) "afloat" at water level on simulated water.

I do it like this:

Plastruct makes a thin clear (and blue) textured plastic sheet (two sizes) called "Agitated Water" that could work very well for open ocean seascape in 1/1250. You can cut it to size and spray / airbrush it and seal it with a gloss coat.

Painting it from beneath doesn't work so well. You get little, tiny black/dark dots that show through. An odd effect.
