1/350 Battleship group build

Post by dbutl3r »

Would anybody be interested in doing a 1/350 battleship build next month at the beginning of May? Im just throwing it out there to see what kind of interest there would be.

Thanks!

I might, if I can get my computer running. But the only battleship I plan to build is the Roma and I started it a few weeks ago. Lower hull is already done and upper hull camo is done. I'm waiting for a wood deck to arrive for the stern. Central deck area isn't painted yet, and the bow is in white with the forward most red stripe done. Yes, compared to most other people I'm masking and painting one stripe at a time. And I've already lost 3 pieces, but at least two of them turned out to be extras.

Dan,

it would be fine if you have already started. The more the merrier. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how long the build should last? I have never participated in a group build before but I was thinking maybe May-July (2 months) does that sound too long maybe too short? I will be building the hobbyboss USS Arizona.

6 months is about my average unless I get burned out or try to correct every little mistake I find.

So we are having a Group Build starting May the 1st up until the end of October.

Questions that need to be answered regarding the participants:

-Will already started models be included? And how much progress is acceptable? For instance, does an unpainted but assembled model participate or the model has to be partly unassembled? In order to accept everyone willing to take part and manage to have as many models completed as possible, my suggestion is to accept every build that is not fully assembled-painted and the only thing left over is weathering and rigging and pe.

-Should battlecruisers be included as ships of the line? So we can call the group build "Line of Battle" group build.

-Full hull or waterline? I guess both..

-Will dioramas including battleships be accepted?

-For how long will participants be accepted?

-Regarding the scale, perhaps we should set aside the scale limitation. A group build is mainly a motivation, so no scale limitation will perhaps attract more participants.

Sorry for the mumbling... Would a moderator be as kind to edit the first post as soon as we reach a full aggremment?

A battleship gb ... :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo:

I would be interested in joining this 1/350 BB Group Build with a started ship.

Here is my example of Nikos' question:

Will already started models be included? And how much progress is acceptable? For instance, does an unpainted but assembled model participate or the model has to be partly unassembled?

I have a 1/350 USS North Carolina that I bought back on Dec. 16, 2006 that was started and is now sitting in the box waiting for the bench time.

The hull is primed and the sub assemblies are built and have a lot of putty on them.

This GB might be the incentive I need to finish Trumpeter's "work of art". I will need to buy a pe set for this. I will help bolster the local economy by ordering a pe set from
Gold Medal Models.

Here is a picture of how she looks today.

I think I'll get myself a 1/350 Dragon 1943 Scharnhorst. My local hobby shop has one in stock, so I can keep it under the "boss" radar

I'll prolly get wooden decks and brass barrels...maybe more, but I need to see the kit first before I decide.
I never build a 350, so it's a first time for me.

It's a second choise...first wanted the Combrig Seydlitz, but I think it's too expensive...no brass...no wooden decks either (torpedo nets?). pitty...I love that ship :pout:

Because my IJN Mikasa is soon ready, I will then start with HMS Dreadnought (Zvezda kit + Pontos Set). So in general interested too ... with same question as Gordon at least.
Alternatively I have the SMS Markgraf from ICM (WEM Set missing, will be ordered next month) too...

I would love this. I'm going to start my 1/350 Tamiya Bismarck in May and REALLY could use some seasoned help from you guys from a show around this time. I'm still insanely leery about up scaling.
