Conway's Shipwright 2013 cancelled?
Today I received an email from Amazon UK to inform me that my pre-order for Shipwright 2013 had been cancelled because it was no longer available from the publisher. I hope this is just a technicality rather than Conway's actual cancellation of the title.

Today, just three days later, it is available for pre-order again. What the hell?

Re: Conway's Shipwright 2013 cancelled?
Can I introduce myself as John Bowen's co-editor for Shipwright 2013. The situation is this. Shipwright 2013 will be coming out, but Conway took a decision to move publication from the end of 2012 to May 2013. I think that is why Amazon assumed that it was no longer available. However, copies will also be available at an attractive discount direct from Conway, and I know the link will be up soon. I am developing my own (multilingual) page for Shipwright on my website - there is some info up at the moment, but I am waiting to get some page spreads etc to let people get a taste of what to expect :http://www.jeanhood.co.uk/shipwright.htmllinux wrote:Today, just three days later, it is available for pre-order again. The book kicks off with a look behind the scenes at the Rijksmuseum's ship model collection, some of which is now featured in the brand new ship model gallery. The museum only reopened this week, and I can't wait to get back to the city to see the models in their new home. I saw them in the storage facility when I interviewed the curator and the great Ab Hoving.
John and I are now sourcing modelling articles for 2014...I will be putting something about that onto a new thread .

Just to update - I've been told that the official date for Shipwright is 6 June 2013. All existing subscribers will be receiving a letter from Conway in the next two weeks re the new edition. It will be available online from Anova at a discount, but the system isn't geared up for pre-ordering online, so I will post the link as soon as it goes live, which should be June 6th.

I see that Shipwright 2013 can again be ordered from Amazon UK. However since June 2012 the RRP has increased from 30 to 40 and Amazon UK are currently selling it for 31.80.
So I checked the WHSmith website. They still list the RRP as 30 and are currently selling it for 19.20. So I ordered the book from them instead. Whether I actually receive a copy at that price remains to be seen though.
It pays to shop around!

Shipwright 2014
About ten days ago, I asked Conway Maritime Press when the 2014 issue would be published, only to be told that it is not even on their production list! I then wrote to the publisher asking for more information (as they have one of my articles for it), but have received no reply! Has this publication been discontinued forever?

How dispiriting. One wonders whether Warship is now also in doubt, and even whether Conway Publishing has a future in maritime titles.

Re: Conway's Shipwright 2013 cancelled?
I am afraid the sad fact is that no-one is interested anymore! Look at this discussion - 1,256 views and only three comments! I have been told that I am now free to submit the article that I submitted for Shipwright 2014 to another home! I am not going to do this though, because I feel that scratchbuilding is all "washed up" now and I have virtually ceased building models after more than 50 years. The article in question, is available for a nominal fee at http://payhip.com/b/gVyL but has fallen on stony ground - just about zero interest.
