Quick question on the Banner 1/350 Arizona. Should the waterline boot be painted on the top or bottom hull half? I want to paint it before attaching the two halves.

IIRCC, it should be on the upper hull. I believe there is a drawing (by Tracy White) in the first couple of pages showing it's location for that kit.

If you do a waterline display, you'll still have to correct the torpedo belt.

They look like closed porthole shields to me, only they are hinged from the inside instead of outside.

Looking at some other pics of the Pennsylvania, I am finding a semi-random mix of rings and "eyebrows" even on the hull. My educated guess is that Pennsylvania/Arizona got "eyebrows" on new sections of the superstructure when they were modernized.

I was hoping the Stillwell book would give bettter pics on the deck of the Arizona than I can find online; since both ships went though 25 years of changes before WW2 as I'm sure they are different in many ways. I'm still waiting for it in the mail.

I suspect the detail around the casemates/superstructure of the 1/200 kit is all wrong though. After pouring over all those Navsource pics I'm seriously contemplating bashing/scratching the trumpy kit into a late '41/early '42 Pennsylvania now...

Thank you Tracy! I'm building up to a new build soon. Just got the Mk1 detail set for the Arizona today, got the 1/200 Trumpy kit a week ago and I'm trying to learn as much as I can, not to mention making a real, quality plan before diving in this time.

So many questions, so many choices... Right now I've got it narrowed down to a hard, medium or easy choice... doing an early '42 Pennsylvania, a 30's Arizona or a measure one '41 Arizona...



...Or a flying steampunk mega-dreadnought. Somebody help me decide!

Top half, but know that the split is NOT on the waterline and is about ten scale feet below that.

Now that I have acquired a third Kingfisher ( I bought the Riich 1/200 USS Gato kit, which includes a kingfisher as a bonus), I am wondering where the third OS2U Kingfisher would have been stowed? I would appreciate any help and advice. Thanks.

Pretty frequently, they had two stored on the turret catapult. They'd swing one down to the deck with the cranes before launching the other, of course. (And I've seen a picture of all three stored on the turret catapult on a New York-class battleship!)

There were cradles on wheels for the floats that the third one was frequently stored on. Where it was normally stored on the deck I haven't seen, but I've seen it wheeled out for flight ops.

Thanks for all the help. I pulled out my references on the Arizona-- something I should have done sooner. To sum up, it seems that occasionally, the Arizona carried two aircraft on the turret catapult and one on the stern catapult. More common was one aircraft on both the turret and stern catapult and a third aircraft on what appears to be a wheeled dolly or cart parked on the deck to the port side of the stern catapult. What is interesting is that I found no photo of the Arizona with three OS2U Kingfishers-- they were the earlier SOC Seagull or either earlier than that. I'm assuming that the Arizona also carried three Kingfishers in its last year of service. I feel safe saying that because there are photos of the number three Kingfisher in that famous series of photos taken in September 1941-- at least it is numbered "3".

I want to purchase ArtWox wood deck but read in a thread on the board that part of the deck was cut wrong. Does anyone know if ArtWox is aware of this issue and if they plan on fixing it on up coming production runs?
Sorry this is for the 1/350 Arizona not the 1/200 Arizona

I just laid down the Artwox deck on my 1/200 Trump Arizona and it fit like a glove, I had no issues at all with mine

Started my Trumpeter 1/200 Arizona a couple weeks ago. I will be using KA's complete detail set for this build. I chose to paint her in the dark blue scheme using Vallejo Dark Sea Blue. I've been reading through this thread and I take it that we have confirmed that her turret tops were Div. one red? Would it be totally wrong of me if I did not paint my turret tops red? I like the looks of them all dark. Thoughts?

It would be historically wrong to paint them anything other than red if you are painting her in a dark scheme.
