The wood textures look lovely. Nice detail on the deck fittings.

I would do something with the green paint. I think it needs a wood plank bump under it or something similar. It looks just like You filled in with the bucket tool in photoshop. As the wood textures are nicely detailed, it just accentuates the difference.

Either add a plank 'bump' map or mix in a wood texture under the green to give it a bit of reality.

Apart from that one thing, excellent job.

Glad you are finding the 2.5/6 series nice to work with. You'll like the new modelling tools in the last few versions.

Thanks for your nice comments. Unfortunatelly, planking of the hull is still far beyond my skills :sorry: Anyway I found texturing this model very challenging. Each one part had to be UV-mapped... But it gave me an opportunity to get familiar with a new Blender user interface. I hope, next time I will be able to show good textures expandede along the sailng vessel's hul. Cheers.

Lothar, great job, I have really enjoyed following this thread -- especially admired the hull and the capstan mechanism.

The English call these boats, or their 19th century descendants, "old gaffers." The French call them "vieux greements", meaning old-type rigs. The survivors have summer gatherings chonicled in these links:

The best modelers' source for plans and photos of these types that I have found was the French magazine, Modele Reduit de Bateau. The editor was a "vieux greement" enthusiast.

I hope you do more with these, they are fascinating boats.

Thank you mcg !
As I mentioned, I found this model very challenging. But this kind of sailing vessel inspired me quite a lot... Browsing through the internet I also found the sites:
http://www.arbeitskreis-historischer-sc ... hmack2.htm
and
http://parus.ucoz.lv/forum/11-312-1.
The latter has the most attracted my attention. If I find some time, maybye I digitalize the same boat. Moreover, she carried cannons so this way would much better comply with the name of this forum "mil-mesh" :)

The boat you are referring to is an armoured Dutch gunboat that came to fame during the Belgian struggle for independence in the 1830s. The drawing was published by Edmond de Pris in his 'Souvenirs de la Marine' (vol. 1, if I am not mistaken) in the 1880s. There was a large model in a dedicated showcase in the old Antwerp Maritiem Museum telling her story).
