German Flugsicherungsschiffe (Air Traffic Control ships)

Post by doog_k »

I'm building an R/C Immelmann (or maybe Max Stinsky - there are more references & photos!) in 1/144th right now, she'll make an interesting contrast to my Akitsushima.

Anyway, I need some information on the paint-job and even the ensign she'd have flown.

The ships were officially Luftwaffe units, so I'm not sure what ensign they would have flown. My question is would it have been different from the Kreigsmarine? Internet flag references are somewhat unclear. If I was building Goering's staff-car I'd be fine!!

The pre-war photos I've found online show an exaggerated Dunkelgrau/Mittelgrau paint scheme on Max Stinsky, between the upper-works and the hull. I think they are probably exaggerated by 1930s orthochomatic black & white film. However I've seen some references to Baltic camouflage, complete with false bows, stripes and straight Mittelgrau (I assume).

Does any one know of more definitive information?
Also what are the Tamiya equivalents for the colours mentioned above?

Any thoughts out there??

Nope, no Luftwaffe experts outh there? Oh well, the Penant I found will have to do, along witht the Kreigsmarine ensign. As for paint? We'll call it modellers license, based on what little info I've found :)
