Real "Old Navy"

Post by islandpiper »

This is my first effort at posting an image here......call it an experiment of sorts. Here is a plain view of a ship made by my father back in the very early 1930's, according to family legend. Some of you Navy historians might be able to fill me in a bit. If this posting works, I'll drop the rest of the images in later. Piper

Here is the rest of the string. I'm not sure that "Atlanta" is the proper name, but may have been something a teenager in the early 1930's liked. Still, a nice bit of work for a fellow living in a little farmhouse with no proper shop and certainly no extra money . I know the "aerial" is damaged, just have not brought myself to remake the old man's work. piper

And a few more.

My Dad was a very quiet, unassuming man. He would never dream of actually showing off his work while he lived because he'd figure that no one would be interested. Wish i could have posted this while he was still with us, he'd love this site. piper

I love it. It is fantastic for a 1930's era scratchbuild. Your father had skill as did many, many from that age so you have a real treasure on your hands. Amazing condition for its age too. No doubt that if he were alive now, he'd be an expert modeler with all the advances we've made in the hobby. Dust that vessel off and put it in a place of honor.

Did he build any more models?
