Hi Atma, do you have any more info? Will it be 1944 or 1942?
So now just 1/700 Chokai will be outstanding from Fujimi from this class... hope they will release it soon

Re: Calling all IJN Takao class fans
I still have yet to see a hull from the new (F) Maya.. I'm hoping the bulges were tweaked for better definiton compared to their Takao kit. Atago would be a possibility for me if that were so.
Aosima is getting in on the bundling game. They will be offering their Maya with a USS Dace (probably the old Skywave Gato sub that Tamiya picked up) : http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS00808/Nav

Re: Calling all IJN Takao class fans
Dear Collegues,
I'm just finishing my Takao in 1/350. Please take a look for some shoots...

I'm at stage to complete riging. And.... I have a question:
Was it realy that way that on the ends of antenas and rigging lines the insulators were present? like this?:

I have not found any photo showing them as there are often done on models - white thick rolls....
thanks for help!
Greg

Re: Calling all IJN Takao class fans
Nice work, Greg.
In truth, there are various sorts of connectors, insulators, lights, and pulleys in the rigging. Generally speaking, the connectors, lights, and insulators are cylindrical in shape, though some maybe spherical. Tiny blobs of while paint seems tobe the best way to represent them in 1/700 and 1/350. I don't have crystal-clear phot examples so, I'll post a mix of examples -

Hallelujah! I'd love to get new blister just for the Takao (F) kit I have on hand. I wonder if there's a way, short of buying an Atago kit.Notice the blisters on the hull are separate piece.

Hi Dan,
Do you have the new 1944 Fujimi Atago? If so, what are your thoughts on the kit?
Thank you
Joe

Re: Calling all IJN Takao class fans
Hi, Joe -
I don't have it (yet). I've been examining the photos from the Omani site. Hull appears to be that of the Maya kit, which has the separate bulges, making it a great improvement over the Takao kit. Deck is definitely different than the Maya kit. Despite having "Atago" molded onto the sprues, some look like they are common to the Takao and Maya kits. Not that that's a bad thing.
PE fret looks identical to the Takao version. Overall, it looks pretty good.

Re: Calling all IJN Takao class fans
So I have just ordered my first Takao, It is the "1/700 Aoshima IJN Heavy Cruiser Takao 1944 Leyte Gulf - Waterline (New Tooling)"
from freetime hobbies that was on clearance, but I couldn't find any reviews on this particular boxing. It was kind of an impulse buy, and now im wondering after the fact, who makes the most accurate 1/700 molds of the Takao class ships?
