Looks very nice, btw you could put it all together in one post/section
It seems very neat and tidy build, maybe too clean for my tastee :P
How do you plan to do rigging, with or without bow/stern antena cable?
Also, linoleum decks seems too dark, considering they are lighter than the color of the ship on most b/w photos

That looks great, redoctober! Though, I suppose I should remind you that both in-progress and completed builds belong in the Picture Post section, though one or two pics here is fine for accuracy-related discussions ;)

Flick: there's no linoleum externally (not sure about internally) on the Yamatos. The main deck is wood-covered. It's dark because the deck was stained/painted/covered with a darkening agent to make it stand out less in 1944 (I forget which month) - see the rest of this thread for more info on that.

TimmyC, i meant on the aircraft deck linoleum, the main deck is pretty much ok :thumbs_up_1: , here's a pic to be more specific -
Image[/URL]
many depict this in a light grey color as if the linoleum has been painted over :S:S
It could be trick of light, but many photos (us and jap) show that part lighter than the color of the ship. It could be the trick of light/reflection/different cameras etc. I wonder how that same red-brown linoleum seems on other ships photos - to me it looks quite the same as color of ship or darker in terms of color lightness (considering the black and white photography)

One more thing, about the blast bags, they seem some kind of ivory/beige color on the model, is this correct? Shouldn't they be, because of the wartime, made of some kind of medium grey or brown canvas instead of the white?

Thanks guys for the kind comments! And sorry Timmy about the picture post got a bit too excited actually finishing a boat for a change Instead of running into some roadblock or another lol I just have so many projects!!! Also about the linoleum strips in the back of the ship I haven't found much about whether they were gray or brown but I know that on the cruisers and destroyers are brown so I went with the safest bet.

Hi im new here,i have been building ships for last 1.5 years and i eventually got a yamato as a xmas gift last year from my gf and i thought it was time to start building it as i have been spending money on buying kits and not building them. I got WEM photoetch for my Yamato, still need to get brass props, barrel's and a wooden deck.i started with the photoetch but i am now at the point where i am looking at buying the remainder of the stuff i need to carry on and i started thinking of what refit to build her in. not knowing too much about the refits but doing a bit of research i started liking the idea of the 1945 operation ten go with all the AA guns and darkened deck.(still unsure on the darkened deck).but i noticed that my tamiya 78014 kit doesn't have the stern AA gun platforms.is this normal for this kit?
i attached a picture of the crane on the rear where the platforms would be.
thanks for help in advance

Hi from what I know Yamato had the squarish AA rear play form on her stern , she also did not have her crane tower on. These are removable/collapsible to allow for a greater arc of AA fire. Look at my kit at the top of this page :)

Question......

Which brand of Kure Grey (spray & bottle) best represents the original color on the IJN Yamato?

I've uploaded some photos of the stern of the 1:10 Yamato Museum model at Kure. Thought they might help:

Hello Rob Wood, do you have any pics of all three turrets? I just received my turrets (3) from L'Arsenal and there was one training sight. In Skulski's book, it shows all three turrets with them therefore I am curious as to what the Kure Museum models has. I am currently putting together the 1/200 Nichimo Yamato and would like to make the model as accurate as possible. Thanks

Rob, Great shots of the 1/10 model at Kure. Would you happen to have some close up photos of any of the Rigging/Antenna details on your photo set? If you do, can you please post some! Thank You!

I don't have an album, but I'm working on putting a book together, specifically for model builders. I shot well over 1,000 photos of the model, so it's a long process. I want to help fellow model builders as much as I can, however, and as it also helps me to focus on categories upon request, I'm happy to share 10 photos here per subject.

Next: Rigging.

Thank you very much Rob!

Hope I'm not repeating a past discussion on this thread as I have not read it in its entirety as I've joined this forum a short time ago and apologize in advance.

Looking at the pics of the turrets Rob posted the training sights are not there; but looking at Skulski's book they are present on all three turrets from the day of commissioning to her sinking. Although, the AA tubs on top of the turrets and the stern in Skulski's book are circular, the new Tamiya 350th and Kure Museum's version the tubs are hexagonal. Therefore, who is correct? I would hope the Museum is...what is everyone's thoughts on this?
