Thanks for the photos of the awning stanchions. The upper portion is removed and stored somewhere? I like to be able to rotate my turrets so will probably have at least some with the top stowed. Still somewhat at odds as to how to fabricate these in 1:192.

Top section is only attached when the awning is being rigged. Otherwise yes, they are stowed. Where, I have no idea but given the shear amount of stanchions capable of using that upper section, they're a good amount of them. I'll see if I can find out where they found them when they rigged the awning. We've only had it up since July or so.

Trying several methods for the 0-1 stanchions; split Bamboo into square sections and slightly tapered; the smallest plastruct I beam I could find, tapered both ways. I did find a photo of the 16-2 mount firing to stbd, with the stanchions laid flat.

They were laid bow to stern correct? Each one is hinged at it's base.

Question: how many stanchions are there from abeam the turret rangefinder aft to the O-1 deck sponsons?

Are you talking about from where the 40mm saluting guns are to where the deck house angles in toward Turret 2's barbette?

Yes the stanchions lay down in the scupper for and aft, I believe they stay rigged with the lifelines. I answered my own question about the number, finding a Missouri photo I took looking aft abeam the ladder to the O-1 deck by the #2 turret. Rigging the awning must be quite a job, though with a huge deck force it might go pretty fast. Sometimes in scratch building the first effort does not work out. Today I built the gangway, which on Missouri is stowed abeam the bridge on the main deck bulkhead. Took two tries with that one!

Ahhhh ok

When you say gangway you mean the Accom ladder right? We have ours sitting on the deck right now if you need any shots of it.

This one appeared to be a gangway. I expected an accommodation ladder, but it looks as if the treads are fixed flat. It is possible the treads rotate, but a very close examination would be necessary. As far as the modeling of it goes, makes no difference in the stowed position. Forward of this is what I could best describe as a sled built of I beams, part of an accommodation ladder setup?

A sled of I-beams huh? I'd need to see a photo to venture a guess. Where exactly is/was it on the deck? I'll see if we have anything similar.

You are correct , this is an accommodation ladder. The foot treads do rotate, on close inspection one can see that they do not stow completely flat and have some lever connection to adjust the angle.

I'm still not sure what the "sled" is in that first photo. If our O-1 bulkhead is the same (starboard side right?) then we have a bunch of brackets that were meant to hold davits and other various deck equipment. If that's the same bulkhead I'll look tomorrow to see what we have.

I've added some shots of our forward port Accom ladder that's laying flat on the deck. We have another rigged further aft on the port side that can be lowered and used.

In the lower photo Gaye of the ladder on the bUlkhead you can see a triangular bridle, probably for supporting the lower stage when rigged.

I just picked up the Revell 1/535 Missouri from the local Hobby Lobby. They have a current running 40% off coupon so i got it for $13. I figure despite the deficiencies in those older Revell kits that $13 would be worth it.

In a trip to Jefferson City I found a massive Brass U.S.S. Missouri in the Capital building... unfortunately did not think to take any pics at the time. Thing must have been 25 feet long.

It was probably an old Navy radar testing model. They did a bunch of brass models of ships to utilize during early radar testing to see if they could identify a ship based on it's radar return.

There's another brass model at Pearl right next to the ticket window for BB-63 in a giant glass case. Hard to take photos though thanks to the glare. I have a few if anyone is interested.

I finally got a table of offsets for the Iowa class. I loaded the data into Turbocad (no small effort). The board won't let me post a picture. It does not like long and narrow images.
