Hi All,
I want to make the stabs on my Varyag work. I have the electronics and control figured out, but it is the "plumbing" I am worried about.
Her stabs are pretty much parallel to the deck and of course they are below the waterline. I am considering a classic prop shaft set up, but I am concerned that they will still leak and I have to find shafts and stuffing tubes short enough - although I could buy the shortest pair I can find and cut them down to size (carefully)
Does anyone have an y suggestions on hw to make the stab shafts water tight?

May sound like a strange idea and I've never made any stabilisers on ships, but perhaps you could make a box around them all the way up and put your servo above waterline. That way if there was a leak it would remain contained inside that box up to waterlevel but would go no further.

G'day Mate,
I used some cheap brass rudders for the Stab's on my (as yet unfinished) Type23 they are at a 45deg angle and the end of the nylon stuffing tube is just below the waterline. In testing it gets a few drops of water up the shaft. I would go with Neptune's suggestion of a watertight compartment around the shaft exit and locate the servo above. Seems like a simple solution......
